It's a good thing Ray Guy forced us to reconsider the height of the video screens back in 1976.... Raised those things from 90ft. up to 200ft.
(Unbelievable that 33 years since - the NFL never bothered to change it's required venue specs)
I'd hate to have even one single thing in common with the Dallas Cowboys... Am I the only one that sees the irony in that stadium's design?
Hard to put into words but it's something along the lines of:
Old Stadium: There's a hole in the roof so God can watch his favorite team.
New Stadium: There's a hole in the roof, but Jerry Jones can't just let God have an unobstructed view for FREE (or something along those lines).
Anywho.... I love the sound of a booming punt.... and Morstead can certainly launch one...
Has Ochocinco maybe ushered in the era of the diva kicker?

I know it was only the preseason, but just wanted to give a few people the opportunity to recant.
SNAPPERHEAD: blueslover, I know you are a die hard Saints fan, as am I, but please don't defend this pick. We have far greater needs with good talent left on the board. Jesus! I feel like an Oakland Raiders fan.
I'll come back and eat crow if he actually does something. If he really is as good as Ray Guy, I'll take my beating from all of you. To this point he's done zero. I hope i'm wrong. I'd take a beating to get a player the caliber of Ray Guy any day.

Snapperhead,
1. What's the harm in just saying now that the pick appears to be a pretty good one. I apologized for a facebook comment I made. (I never commented on him here at Saints Talk for some reason, but I still felt I should own up for calling the "trading-up-to-get-a-punter" a bad move.)
2. Just because it's preseason, it doesn't mean what he has done does not garner applause. I mean, you agreed Anthony Hargrove has looked beastly in preseason. Would you also say "To this point, he's done zero" just because it's preseason?
3. And why does Morstead have to be as good as Ray Guy to get an apology. From his preseason performance, he's done better than any of the other picks we drafted. 14 punts and only 6 return yards? C'mon.
4. If there is any position you can get a realistic gauge from in preseason, it's the punter. The distance from the long-snapper doesn't not change.
Man up.

This thread was definitely fun to read again. The amazing thing is how dominant Morstead has been on kickoffs, when the scouting consensus indicated otherwise.

yeah that was a good call to bluselover on him being used for kick-offs....I'd love to see him try a 65 yd field goal sometime with the game on the line.

Yeahhhhhhh probably not then, but at the end of the 1st half would work

Or the end of another blowout win instead of the same old victory formation. We have to lead the league in kneel-downs.

We need a Sean Payton or somebody to really talk him up and get his name on the minds of Pro Bowl voters. Or maybe some significant play that gets his name mentioned by the talking heads.
His punting average is average, his punts inside the 20 are average, his net yards punting is average, so his stats won't get him in the Pro Bowl. But he is such a weapon for us, he belongs in Hawaii.

Its a punter...not a LB, not an OL, but a p-u-n-t-e-r. Some folks have their mouths wrapped around SP's dick so hard that their homerism won't let them see past the fact this move sucked.

Just had to repeat this one. Classic.

I dont like giving up so much for a punter, but think back to the nfc championship game and look at how good of a job chicagos punter did pinning us back when we were trying to stay in the game. compare his performance to our punter. if the guy pans out he will be well worth the pick.
lets hope that morstead does as well in the nfc championship as the bears punter did against us.

Props to the bumper, funny how it works out that our front office is smarter than fans

I didn't like the idea of trading up for a punter but wow, this guy is money the way he consistantly lays the ball inside the 5 yd line on punts.

OK, I'm eating crow. It was a good pick and so was Meachum. At least I got to rag on Meachum for 2 years.
