You'll never have a D until we can get quality guys that we can pay.

Sorry Drew huggers but if you know football you know what I'm saying.

The Broncos have the best defense in football, yet have actually spent more cap money on Peyton than we have on Brees

You're the one who doesn't know shite here

We've had no problem paying players, we just payed the wrong ones. Byrd, Junior, Cam, Lewis, Browner, Lofton, Junior, etc have all received good contracts since 2012

This.

People blaming Drew's contract don't know anything about football or the value of a franchise QB, or even a regular, starting QB.

Hell, Miami is paying whathisface damn near the same thing.

But he didn't. Ask the browns about their long list of "coulda" QB's.
Look there are outliers in QB's too. But look at the teams who make the playoffs and win the SB. They mostly all have great QB play.

I'll bet not a single one of you poo-poo'd the idea of signing Byrd, Junior, Cam, Lewis, Browner, Lofton, Junior, etc. to their contracts.
I recall many of you saying we were going to have the best D backfield in the NFL

Not me, you don't. I've been suspect of this D since preseason.

Byrd
I thought he would be good.

Junior
Didn't really get that one.
quote:

Cam
Paid market-correct for him.
quote:

Browner
Wasn't really sold on him, but had no clue he would be this horrible.

The fact that you said that proves you don't get it.

Look, people are paying huge money for just plain-Jane starting QBs.

Everyone on the planet knows that franchise QBs can singularly win games, even with gaping holes everywhere else. Without Brees this team doesn't win 6 games total over the past two seasons.

With a franchise QB, and an average everything else, you can win playoff games and Super Bowls. Giants and Ravens are the most recent examples.

Are we leaving the QB's and heading to everyone else?

Cause ST is the right place to discuss them.

Now re-read your post, Einstein. You just made the case very clear that paying an elite QB an elite salary does not equate to playoffs.
Bravo!

No, man.

Both of those teams recently won SB's with very average teams (although Ravens D was still pretty good).

My point is that (and I'm not trying to be a dick) is take a look at what just an average QB is getting today. It will make Drew's deal look reasonable.

To win consistently and compete for championships, any team will grab a franchise QB and pay market rates.

Now, paying a D-lineman $100M is flat-out stupid.

Restructuring is a must but extend him nonetheless.

Drew is scheduled to count against the cap nest more than any player in history. you can be certain he'll take a cut or he won't be around.

VetteGuy - The Ravens finally won today - with Ryan Mallet! Something Flacco couldn't do this year.

U do realize that this is only going to keep being a common occurrence right, shite ain't getting cheaper and Drew is still unarguably a top 5 qb

A 3 yr extension w 3rd year as optional to spread cap hits is fine too. That'd be 4 years locked up for

Can players refuse an extension? The money next year y'all owe him is what was promised and just kept getting pushed back. If the extension was like another 2 years for a total of 50 million (now 3 year contract), wouldn't it be kind of like he is agreeing to just play an extra 2 years for only 20 million more than he is already promised? He could make more elsewhere.

Not trolling, it's a legitimate question I have wondered. My apologies if it's a dumb question.

You don't know how any of it works obviously.
