Just a heads up the figure still isn't counting Byrd.
He should be saving $3.2 mil now and another $4.6 mil in June (for $7.8 mil total).
So this doesn't affect anything we were going to do, and it was likely already known by the Saints since it was a cap loan.

So just to add to my above post, we should sit $11.5 mil below the cap with Byrd counted, with that rising to $16.1 mil under come June 1st.
But I may have to check if they changed the June 1st designation rules as no one (not even the NFLPA) is counting Byrd as cut.
That's not how the designation used to work. You would get a portion now, and another portion in June. Otherwise why cut him now (aside from just getting rid of him)?
Also yes Armstead's contract may have been structured with this in mind. I feel that they knew this was the year the cap loan was to be paid back (wouldn't seem right if the league hid it and just sprung it on teams).

Unless this was unrelated, but I don't think it is.
This was different. It was an option loan(s) teams could take. Apparently at least 23 teams took one or both loans, so all of them are losing that cap this year.
But this was probably agreed upon when the loans were made so no team should be surprised by this.

I'm no cap expert but is this a big enough of a hit that it could be holding up or making reaching a final number for Butler more difficult?
This would have zero bearing on Butler. We can easily fit him this year (and are getting more space in June from Byrd for draft picks, etc.), and have at least two more quick restructures we can make if we did need more.
The Butler holdup was a disagreement over guarantees.

According to one site the picks are slotted so based on the picks and where they are at the following is the numbers.
#11 $2,781,261
#32 $1,611,013
#42 $1,131,292
#76 $680,033
#103 $640,650
#196 $502,375
#229 $486,036
-------------------------------
Total $7,882,660
Just a heads up this is not effective cap space.
What I mean is each player will take the spot of another player in the top 51 (the number of players counting against the cap in the offseason).
So each one will be about half a mil less (the cost of the player they are replacing in the top 51).
So that $7.9 drops by about $3.5 mil to $4.4 mil.
And that jives with the previous report that we would have $3.4 mil added to the cap with the rookies before the Cooks trade. That extra first rounder added a mil to that ($1.5 mil - half mil of the player he's replacing).

And I'm sure they were aware they were peaking in 11-12 and they needed to get the pieces to win NOW.
Unfortunately, they were horrible pieces.
Ah yes, 2012. The Free Agency from Hell.
