The defense was today as I thought it would be at the end of the preseason.

Better against the run.
Improved pass rush.
Some big plays/yardage.
Some turnovers.
Key stops.

This is a winning formula, especially when the offense starts clicking.

The defense today is basically the best anyone could have hoped for.

If that continues, we may win 13-14 games.

I was very impressed. I didn't think they could pressure Ryan and they did a great job.

Allowing a 6.3 average per rush and a 7.3 average per play isn't really encouraging to me. Granted the last 2 plays were sweet, alloing the Falcons to drive the entire length of the field as fast as they did was a shadow of last year's D. We'll take the win but the D has a lot of improving to do still.

Allowing 17 points to one of the better offenses in the NFL is definitely encouraging. You can pull all of the obscure stat lines out you want, but the bottom line is 17 points.

Points are the ONLY thing that matters and 17 points to one of the top offenses will win us most games.

Only giving up 17 to Atlanta is pretty damn impressive. Considering when we usually play the scores are both at least in the upper 20s. I saw all kinds of encouraging play, and if you look at it objectively, the defense is what kept us in this game because the offense was all kinda of out of whack at times. Which I expect to get only get better which will allow the defense to get opposing offenses in more one dimensional looks

Yeah I don't know how that guy isn't pleased with the saints holding any team to only 17

Yeah, I mean, it's not like they scored every time they touched the ball. 17 points is 17 points. I don't really care how many yards they take to do it.

Yo, speaking of defense, I got three players in fantasy from the Texans and I'm already winning.

Oh, I guess that had nothing to do with defense.

Really though, our defense came up big when it needed to.

And Jordan would have been in Ryan's face even more if the refs ever decided to call a hold on the Falcons.

Glad Hicks is playing well again, too.
He was struggling in the preseason.

Hell, if we lose a game where the opposing team is held to 17, then something is seriously wrong with our offense.
