Did we ever find out what the Joe Morgan suspension was for. And wasn't he injured last year too? Wonder if he's still got the same skills he once had.

No. But they keep mentioning immaturity as a football player and man. Morgan said today he had some maturing to do in both aspects. Not taking it for granted. Said Ben Watson and Jabari Greer helped him. Said he thinks Payton saw his improvements in both areas and that's why he brought him back. Pretty interesting interview on the team website.

Dude might make the team and become a decent receiver, but Colston is (was) way more of a physical freak than people give him credit for

He mouthed off to Payton during the Panthers game, pretty much sealed his fate last year. Couple that with the probation after the DUI last off-season, and the extracurricular non-sense late last year with him and some of the other guys from the locker room, it was pretty evident he needed a wake-up call.

From what I've heard from people who have worked with Payton in the past he's very much a believer in second chances. If Morgan continues to improve, he could be a legit threat for us going forward.

He'll keep Nick Toon out of a job.

Wouldn't be shocked if he led the league in receiving at this point, right brod?

Don't know what the suspension was over, but I've said before why he was released. He got drunk and went into the facility with a chick one night and he passed out in the hot tub and the training staff found him the next morning.

Is he talking about Coleman after one preseason game where the entire offense started out slow? If so, what a dumbass. Secondly, I don't think anyone including myself said anything about Coleman leading the league in receiving yards this season.

Kinda like hyping a guy up as a lock to make the team and comparing his rise to Colston after a few weeks of training camp where he actually missed some time.

And I think he makes the team btw, but I don't think he's a lock

Since the offseason began, Payton pulled no punches & was brutally honest in every interview he whether it pertained to the character of the players on the roster, the teams direction going into the draft & players he had big plans for this season including Coleman. It's the most honest Payton has been in interviews during his tenure with the Saints.

Combine that with the stories of Coleman working extremely hard with both Brees & Colston this offseason & his early success at camp, it's not hard to see why some think he is a lock to make the roster. It's more than just how Coleman faired in one week of training camp. Excuse me, for being able to read the writings on the wall.(Not so much you but that other jack arse)

The entire offense stunk early on. McCown was inaccurate. Part of that was due to pressure allowed by our guards. Outside of one decent run by Ingram around the edge, they couldn't run the ball. It looked like shite.

Personally, I think the only locks are Colston and Cooks

Morgan brings the deep skill set and is a good blocker. Hard to see him not making it.

I honestly see 4 guys fighting for the last 2 spots in Toon, Coleman, Jones and Snead. I think Coleman makes it, but I just don't see it being a lock, especially with Jones and Snead's return abilities.

Exactly....

quote:

How much have you seen Brandon Coleman and Seantavius Jones grow over the year?

"Those guys had a real good rookie season as practice squad players. They were guys that did not miss a beat. They didn't miss practice. They worked real hard this offseason and so it is good to see them out there running around and making some plays but they are both dedicated, physical, young talented players that just need snaps."

Is it understood that they know they have an opportunity to contribute this year?

"Yeah and you are just mentioning two of them, Nick Toon, Joe Morgan, there are a handful of guys out here that are all going to be competing for touches and playing time. I think that is a good thing."

and some more:

quote:

You’ve always valued a blocker in this offense, I know Robert Meachem was great at that, who already has those credentials as a blocking receiver?

“It would be based on years past because, obviously, we’re not in pads yet. I think Marques (Colston) has been steady, someone who’s big enough and knows who to block is physical. Some of these younger guys who haven’t had that opportunity yet will have a chance. It’s part of the job description so you have to be able to do that, it’s like a corner has to be able to tackle, it’s not ok if he can’t. I think that Josh (Morgan) is someone that on film has shown that he does that and that he does it pretty well.”

Is that also a strength of Nick Toon?

“Yes, I think that’s something that he can do well. I think the key is just getting the snaps, but I think we’ll see his snap count go way up.”

I don't see how you can call Coleman a lock with all the guys we have. I do think we'll be solid at WR
