I would laugh more at the Titans, Panthers, and Chiefs than the 9ers. At least the 9ers are good.

I'm laughing at them currently being over the cap.
They're gonna have to do a lot of work if they want to land Nnamdi.

Technically the cap isn't an even $23 mil. It was set at about $23.9 but the most of that .9 is set aside for something(I forget what at the moment).
But yeah how they hell can they sign ANYONE else.

Also, their team sucks.
How are the 49ers gonna sign 14 draft picks?

Several smaller market teams have been consistently underspending.
The new CBA is looking to prevent this.
quote:
Getting under the salary cap isn't the only challenge that NFL teams face. Some franchises, especially small market teams, will have to find a way to add enough salary to reach the league's cap floor. This season will be the first under the latest collective bargaining agreement that will force teams to spend at least 88.8 percent of the salary cap over a four-year period.
As mentioned above, the Colts have plenty of space and they will have to spend it. Their current commitments are around $78 million, almost $30 million short of the cap floor. That's more than a few expensive veterans, or about 60 minimum-salary players. Roster limitations means Indianapolis will be looking at the former.
Joining the Colts in the "must spend a lot of money" club are Cleveland, Cincinnati and Miami. The Bengals look to benefit the most from being forced to add salary, as they have made the playoffs two-straight years but are still short of contending with the best teams in the AFC. The Browns and Dolphins both have young offensive leaders that would likely welcome some added talent in their supporting cast.
The floor certainly adds a new dimension to the salary cap balancing-act around the league. It appears that veterans cut by the Jets, Saints, and Cowboys may find new work easier with the Colts, Browns, and Dolphins. This will add even more parity to a league that already enjoys plenty.

Why wouldn't they spend it? Does the owner get whats left?

don't think they will. I think they are going to trade A LOT of them for better future picks and keep stocked for a few years. They are going to lose some of these defenders when they have to pay Kapernick. I truly believe they have the largest accumulation of talent in over a decade on one roster.

The owner is the one paying the salaries, so yes.

I thought that was TV revenue that was dedicated to player salary. So, what you are saying is it is owner's money and they there has been a limit on how much they can spend. I am surprised more teams haven't went the cheap route if that was the case.

Just checked the 49ers and it looks like they added something wrong. Seems they are closer to $120 mil(top 51 + dead money - rollover).
Still less room than us.
Still less room than us.

The revenues determine the cap(not just tv, but the players get the largest portion from that). Basically it's a way to determine about how much the owner's will make, and then take the cap out of that.
And some owners have stayed cheap for years. Most of them learned that you actually make less when people stop coming to games rather than just paying players though.

They should be sitting at $121,101,245.
That leaves them with about $2 mil, which is likely why we are able to offer Nnamdi more(we have about $5.5 mil in space).

We still don't know what we paid Watson and the fact the Browns could have paid to keep him isn't very reassuring.
