AA is gone.

Toon and Stills are different types of receivers.

Toon is more of a heir to Colston while Stills will hopefully replace Devery.

Yeah Toon/Colston are the possession receivers, while Morgan/Stills are the speed receivers. I wonder if we bring in a slot guy or just let Moore/Sproles handle that.

Really Morgan/Stills is the only battle as far as WR/TE goes. Morgan definitely has the inside track as he started coming on at the end of the year.

No way Morgan gets cut. He could have a break out year

If Morgan gets cut, will be a damn shame. That guy is a playmaker still developing in limited snaps last year

No. With Henderson and Arrington gone we have room for receivers.

I expect it to be Colston, Moore, Toon, Morgan, Stills, and Roby. Stills is also a possible PS candidate if he doesn't show much or a red shirt(fake IR) player if he does but not more than Morgan.

I think it's more likely that Toon gets cut or put on the practice squad (which necessarily means he was cut) than Stills. As Juan Cincaide (sp?) brought up on the twitters, Payton wasn't there for the Toon draft. That doesn't mean he didn't give the front office his opinion on as many players as possible before the draft, but he's definitely more linked to Stills.

They'll both have roles within the offense

Stills is more of an outside guy even though he's smaller. Think of the role devery henderson played here for years.

Morgan is the deep threat a la robert mechem

Toon is the big body

Toon is not getting cut. That's a silly notion.

he probably won't but I'd say it's more likely than Morgan or Stills

We haven't seen Stills play a snap. He could bust right out(think Woods and that RB everyone was high on before PT beat him out). Not saying he will, but Toon is a little less likely at this point to get cut than Stills as he has shown some skill at the NFL level.

I agree Toon is more likely than Morgan at this point, but I think the likely hood is slim to none.

the biggest knock on him were health issues. So he IRs the first year. Anymore significant dings and he could be out on that.

Who knows who wins out? No one. Payton announced this year is gonna be kinda like '06 for him. He was alluding to harsh competition in camp. No one has anything sewn up and everyone is being looked at.

Remember replacing 1st Rd Stallworth with a 7th rder from Hofstra? Remembering staring safety Dwight Smith being dumped unceremoniously before August? I have suspicion we could see some similar shakeup type moves this year.

If someone outplays Toon sure. But just based on what has been shown, Toon at the moment is safer than Stills.

If he gets hurt he'll get IR'ed again, not cut. Then I think next year would be his last chance.

But again, IF someone outplays him then sure. We can't say that will happen at the moment, so at the moment he is safer than any rookie we bring in.

Hell, he could outplay Morgan, and so could Stills and then suddenly Morgan could be in trouble.

But at the moment, Morgan is a safe bet to stay.

Colston and Moore are clear cut locks (though Moore may be a cap casualty next year, though I'm too buzzed to bother delving into his cap situation). Morgan is all but certain as well. Roby is a key ST player, so there's a good chance he makes it. At that point, it's a matter of whether or not the Saints want to keep 5 or 6 WRs. Graham (who will never leave the field when healthy except for breathers) is a no brainer in "5 WR" sets. Sproles (easily capable of lining up as a 5th WR) and Cadet (I'm almost certain he lined up at WR last season) are in the same boat. Graham and Sproles/Cadet lend credence to keeping only 5 WRs.

So Colston, Moore, Morgan, and Roby are all going to be active. All of that leaves one more pure WR being needed. They could keep six WRs and always leave one inactive (certainly possible), but they may really like someone at another position that they're afraid of cutting and getting picked up. If we cut Stills, I think he makes an active roster elsewhere. But if we cut Toon, who didn't play last season? I think he'll clear waivers and be good to go on the practice squad.

Nick Toon: 2 preseason appearances
game 1: no recorded stats
game 2: 2 receptions, 6 yards

Nick Toon's extra year of "experience" means nothing.

I wouldn't go that far. You know as well as i that the 1st year is tough on any rookie. He (Toon) will know what to expect unlike the rooks. But talent will win out in the end.

Don't be surprised if Stills replaces Moore. He had a great year last year playing the slot.

Pittman. That's who I was talking about.

And yes, too many people undervalue the ability to adjust to the NFL in the first place. Toon has done so.
