I remember a thread on here explaining how Loomis said he probably wasn't going to draft a lb. He wanted to stay in house. He obviously knows something we don't.

We just spent our first round pick on a guy who, best case scenario, is our 3rd corner.

Not saying it was a bad thing or a good thing.

Reading between the lines of Loomis's recent interview, I said that it didn't sound like he expected Sharper back. At the very least, Loomis didn't sound like the expected to get the same Darren Sharper back that we had last year.

Jenkins moves to FS, and now we have the defensive backfield that allows Gregg Williams to keep calling the blitzes that he likes to call.

Shanle moves to the strong side and Casillas and Arnoux battle for the starting job on the weak side. We've improved significantly at DE with Brown and Wilkerson.

All we need is a DT.

Need based drafting is sooo 20th century. BPA is how we build SB winning teams. Do a little research and catch up. Draft a Deuce when ya have Rickey W., draft a Grant when ya have stud DEs , draft a Meachem when ya have a #1 offense. Best trumps need every time.

My take:

1. Jenkins will be moved to FS and Gay may not make it through training camp

2. When Greer and Porter went down, we could not cover anyone.

3. You can never have too many good corners

4. Payton and Loomis can do whatever the hell they want in the draft. The obviously know what they are doing.

5. They must feel they can get some decent linebackers or dline in the 2nd and 3rd. Also, never know what may happen with Jamaal Brown.

In all, I'm fine with the pick. We did not need to draft a savior, just someone who could contribute, and this guy will. Also, his video on ESPN was pretty sweet

Man, I refute that statement. I read multiple mock drafts that had Patrick Robinson going between 21-29 this past week. He was clearly the 4-5th best corner on the board but it's not like he came out of nowhere like the Jags 10th pick. This guy will be a legit corner in a couple seasons with some polishing.

Patrick Robinson= Daunte Robinson if you look at their film and it has nothing to do with their last names.

What's the point of moving Jenkins to FS, and drafting Robinson if you are just going to cut Gay?

You are still cutting your cb depth

Against the run? Pretty much from pre-season until Addai was gashing us.

or replacing Gay with someone better. or Gay gets dropped to 4th corner.

Greer and Porter
Jenkins, Robinson, and Gay

I can live with that

what was saints biggest weakness last year?

And when the hell are the Saints a team that drafts purely on need? Not news yet some bitch about it every year.

corners looked bad last year cause teams HAD to thro

That makes zero sense. Greer and Porter never looked bad, Jenkins was alright for a rookie, the rest looked bad because THEY ARE BAD.

I have no problem with that, but most of our 1st round picks, while not being busts, have been underwhelming.

Bush is the best out of all of them, and that says a lot. Meacham worked out 3 years later. Ellis is okay at best and oft injured. Jenkins is being hoped to be a good safety and is a below average corner in our scheme.

So picking BPA doesn't seem to have done much for this team as far as the money goes. Our best picks have been later picks ironically outside of Harper and Porter.

I just think we continually waste our first round pick. Bush was understandable given the circumstances and has worked out well at times. Other than that all 3 other first rounders have been mediocre.

It's got nothing to do with Robinson.

It's got everything to do with that we have 2 starting cb's already.

Best case scenario they stay healthy, and he is our 3rd corner

dunno, maybe. i'm sure we will have several corners in training camp battling for the final spots.

but if sharper isn't resigned and jenkins is moved, then this becomes a moot point

Thats fine, but you still used your first round pick on depth.

Unless Greer or Porter get hurt he is Nickelback at best
