when did he do this?

Like it or not, last year. I won't argue he needs to be better in January... but he has shown that he's capable.

So you don't have to actually take a team to the SB to show that you can get them there?

obviously it was when their 3rd best team ever blew a 20 point lead or when they fail repeatedly in the redzone.

Or maybe when their high powered offense doesn't score a single point in a playoff game

One of those

O points in the entire 2nd half of the NFCCG in your own place doesn't scream capable to me.

I assume you're expanding the definition of the word capable in this context to include "Currently active on an NFL roster"

Saints homerism in the last 3 posts. Then cool, be glad he'll be the QB for the Falcons for a while. Fine with me.
As a Falcons fan though, I've got no ill will towards Matt Ryan. He's not the issue with this team.

To answer the question before though, he had a leg injury. Pulled hammy I believe. Doesn't matter much. Falcons are done this year and Roddy's done in ATL after this season as well.

If Flacco can take a team to the Super Bowl, Matt Ryan probably can too.

I agree with this. You could do much worse than Matt Ryan at QB

He's a good QB, and I agree he's no the problem, but I do take issue with you saying he's capable of taking them to the SB. He hasn't, and that statement is pure conjecture.

It was a Super Bowl or bust year but Matt Ryan has shown that he can get them to the dance.

With elite receiving options...let's not forget that.

I don't think he's really the issue though. He's a top 10 qb. Still and all I'd like to see how he performs when he is asked to elevate the play of his talent. My big question is what's going to happen when you're paying Julio megatron type money in addition to Ryan's contract?

1). The Saints should clinched the division.

2). The Falcons are not thinking of tanking the season for a high draft pick.

I've never understood the 'tanking' thing.
Why would a owner piss off a entire fan base for one pick?
Why would a coaching staff lose all hard won cred with its players for one pick?
Why would players risk injuries playing to lose all for one pick?

Honestly, in the last 2 games - Roddy has angered me greatly. When we were down by 13 (I believe) to MIA, he basically quit and went to the sideline. I know he's been injured but don't be "ok to play" when you're hanging close and then too injured to play when you're getting your arse kicked. Ah well. He's gone at the end of the year.

As for Matt not getting to the dance. Fair enough. I believe he's capable but obviously he hasn't. Y'all do bring valid points.

Enough with the Falcons updates already.

I for one don't give a shite about them.

How do you convince a player to tank for a draft pick?

His livelihood is on the line every snap. Like JPP and Tuck are going to say, "Sure, I'll go sackless so we can land Clowney or Bridgewater. Never mind that I might ruin everything I've worked for my entire life."

yeah I think tanking is a more organic process. Eventually players just stop buying in that they can win with a certain regime.

In the NBA they are guaranteed contracts and even role players are getting paid handsomely...plus a lot of those guys just seem to be collecting a paycheck anyway. In the NFL you can be gone tomorrow. If I'm a 4th cornerback, wr, rotational front 7 guys, or vet trying to get one last bit of guaranteed money there is no shot in hell I'm tanking.

Especially considering that pick might end up sucking balls. You never can tell with draft picks.

You are wrong in that Matt Ryan is grossly overpaid and the effects are already being seen...and will only get worse over the next couple of years.

That doeesn't mean his performance, in a vacuum, is Atlanta's biggest problem. It's not. But, he's not an elite QB.
