And when I say the conversion to the 3-4 base is overrated, I mean teams as a whole spend a majority of their time in sub packages. It's just how the game is played now.

Solid at DE and NT. LOLB has ability to change games. They really missed him last year. Would be nice for you to have Weatherspoon in there...yikes. He will be missed.

Don't expect shite out of Umenyiora.

My question to you, DD, how is your depth? If you lose Jackson or Soliai for 6 games, how will your run D suffer?

Also, with a year under Trufant and Alford should be better. Who is your 3rd? You need a nickel corner in this NFL.

ETA: Your biggest issues will be depth and toughness. Your OLine and Dline will need to be nasty in the NFC South (good job on DLine, BTW).

I don't anymore. I actually don't think he'll play 50% of the time. Right now, there's a BUNCH of rookies at the LB spots. Not 100% sure how they're gonna get thrown in and out at spots.

At the front, we're actually much better this year. Most of the guys that were starting last year are now backups. Examples:
Malliciah Goodman
Corey Peters
Cliff Matthews

Guy I'm curious about, boom or bust type:
Ra'Shede Hageman (rookie - and a freak of nature of a human.)

Yea, and we've already gotten a lot of injuries it seems. I'm getting more and more bleak on this season. But hey, frick it.

Bush is awesome...a guy that really is ready to take that next step and be a starter...pretty elite option as a third safety, imo.

...1 missed tackle all season in 144 running game snaps and 349 passing game snaps.

#1 among safeties in Tackle Efficiency (PFF).

Reminds me of Wilson. Freak of nature athlete, but damn he couldn't pan out.

Massaquoi

Objectively, no. Hope I'm wrong but probably nothing more than depth and an "average starter" at best.

I got you...seems like a lot of people are high on him from reading the boards and such, but I haven't seen anything that backs it up (stats, PFF, etc).

...just wondering because it looks like the ATL defense could be pretty solid, but I don't understand the lack of pass rush

It's the dilemma I see and hear every training camp.

-Falcons media members: "Ohhh, Player X is doing GREAT all week! WOW WOW WOW!"
-Falcons Fans: "frick YEAAAA!"

Then you do scrims against The Titans (happened yesterday for Atlanta) and it becomes:
-Falcons media members: "Well Player X is really struggling this week. Going against another team really shows flaws in their game"

It's so hard to tell. Take New Orleans. I don't know since I don't follow as intently but is the secondary dominating? Assuming it is, does that mean that they're that good or the WRs are just not as good as thought? Or vice versa...

I think it's been kind of even, maybe more slanted towards the WRs so far. But that's normal for camp, you really don't see how you match up until mid-preseason. One thing so far for us in camp is the WRs seem to be getting better about the same time Brees has been pulled from active practice with the offense. I think the productivity will really tip in the offense's favor when Brees gets back into the huddle. The secondary still has a long way to go, especially as a unit. But we've seen a lot of good individual productivity out of players that people didn't think would make an impact this year in camp, we look loaded and Ryan is playing with all of his new toys in the secondary.

So far the offense has been dominating, although they make their fair share of plays. There are some plays where reporters said it would be a sack in a real game, but the refs at practice don't always call it.

The biggest thing is the team has more weapons than last year, especially at the WR position.
