Why? The Saints have the #2 pass defense in the league. I agree that they could use some depth, but not with a 1st round pick.

The list of injuries for our playoff run should tell you why. And its a passing league most Sundays as well. P rob coming back? Greer coming back? White the answer?

That would have the Saints taking a DB in the first round of 4 of the last 6 drafts.

Does not matter. What matters is whats on the field and playing well.

Since losing Greer the Saints have allowed 216 yards per game which would still be good enough for 7th in the league.

Not so sure you would be as cocky with those numbers vs the Mannings, brady's Rodgers etc.

With Strief and De La Puente both being UFA they should look to go OLine.

O-line and secondary are to be targeted I would guess.

Well thats a mess

I hear you but yet, the DB's gave up TD's to the Cheatriots and Panthers in the closing seconds. Harper is garbage, Greer is likely done. Jenkins should be gone.

I'm on board for that as well. It just seems that the FO has done a good job of getting that position later in the draft. We're not picking top 10 and have no shot at the studs like Matthews, so BPA might dictate a LB or DB.

ETA: or even a WR

Why wouldn't we still desire a pass rusher from the OLB position?

Sure if they plan on running a real 3-4. But is that really a huge need? Wasn't everyone super excited about Victor Butler?

And how'd that depth work out for us this year? Maybe we run a real 3-4 if we had real 3-4 OLB depth. Victor is nice to get back but he's got one yr left on deal and we have zero depth at position

I watched him get bitched in pass protection all night. Hell of a run blocker but his PP is lacking

Listen, I'm with you. I said on this board that this defense could be even better next year if they went to a real 3-4 and added another pass rusher. But you are assuming they want to run a different defense next year based on nothing but your speculation.

Who's to say they aren't perfectly content going with the same defense that was very good this year? Just going by what we actually know, another pass rusher isn't a huge need. They barely played, then released, the guy who was their second best speed rushing OLB.

I don't think you are with me, u keep saying we don't need a new pass rusher and you think they are content having to sign keyunta Dawson's off the street

A lot depends on Ryans after season evaluation. Much of what he has run was based on what was here when he showed up. Who knows what and who he really wants to run.
We may see or maybe we won't be able to tell LOL, by the FA's and draft picks he helps pick.
Versatility seems to be at the top of his list from this amatuer armchair QB.

No, I am with you. You are just too dumb to understand my point. If they do switch to a real 3-4, then yes another pass rusher is a need. But there is no indication that they want or plan to run a real 3-4. You are just speculating. I'm going by reality. You are talking about getting another pass rusher based on a defense they don't really run.

The reason they can sign Dawson's off the street is because that position doesn't really matter. If it did, Wilson would still be with the team.

So Payton announce a switch to a 3-4 but really doesn't want to play a 3-4. In any case why the hell would they not want to upgrade their linebacker pass rushers? Guys we got 3.5 from parys, no need to further upgrade guys. You need pass rushers like you need gold bond on a beach vacation

You are the biggest troll on the board. Just because I say things that aren't popular doesn't make them any more right are wrong than what anyone else says.

The funny thing is, I'm a troll and secret Falcons fan because I said it was silly to think that a team that finished like top 3 in sacks, and has 2 young guys who both finished in the top 6 in sacks, had bigger holes to fill than pass rusher. Man, what an idiot and horrible troll fan I am.

You realize that in sports, the difference between success and failure is usually just opportunity right? Maybe you should check out James Harrison's early career, or Cameron Wake. Kurt Warner was a bum, until he was given a chance. Mark Ingram didn't deserve to be in the league until the Dallas game. Lance Moore was released by the freaking Browns.

Random thought- would they consider sticking him at guard a couple years, before eventually replacing Strief? He'd be a monster at that position. Open the run up inside big-time; that way the Ingram/Robinson running game would set up Brees to Stills and Graham on play-action for, basically, the rest of Brees' career.

tell me about kony ealy, you think he can play in our hybrid 3-4?

don't really know, only see him in DE projections. 6-5 275lbs is prototypical 4-3DE size also. From the early stock reports it would be a surprise if he was on the board that late tho.

Not when you are paying your current guards combined more than Brees! $20mil of cap in 2014
