on't see how this is a reason.

How and why did Hicks go from preparing to be a breakout star to "our garbage" in 20 games? How could we not properly motivate a young guy with some talent in his contract year?
This is their garbage for a someone who 4 weeks ago was supposed to be our 2nd best D-lineman. Don't tell me Richardson was just playing so well he put Hicks on the bench because that ain't the answer.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Johnson sucks and so does player development in general, but the deal itself is neutral if not mildly positive.

He played poorly in the preseason as well. It's not the front offices job to motivate a guy in his contract year.

He showed promise, but hes just a training camp hero. Arizona's interior line was an opportunity for him to feast and he shite the bed and was rotated out. It's not a surprise after that, our defense played remotely well.

Payton included in the front office since he's actually the one calling the shots. Hiring or firing Bill Johnson, that's front office too. Or maybe Hicks just wasn't any good, also on the front office.

Yep. This deal isn't the problem. The problem is, outside of a Gresham and Greg Jennings visit, that we did NOTHING to address TE or WR in either free agency of the draft. shite, even Rob Housler, who signed a minimum deal with Cleveland, would have been a decent move.

The Saints D-Line is not getting pressure on any QB. Cam Newton ate soup in the pocket before each throw. Hicks poor play is partly his fault and partly no D-Line pressure on the QB. Getting rid of him is not the answer.
Hicks should do far better on most other teams. If so, good for him and too bad for the Saints. If he does poorly in NE, then his career is over. NE can pressure the QB. Hicks will probably start playing with more effort there.

The Saints must be playing for the #1 pick in the 2016 draft. Maybe they won't screw up that pick. Best case scenario is the Saints trade their #1 pick for more picks.

I'm about at my wits end with this team. I don't even know how to feel anymore. Good? Bad? How did it come to this?

This is the Normal Saints.

The good years were an aberration. Sort of a tear in the space/time continuum that caused major disruptions in the order of the Universe. That's how we won the Superbowl.

But the fold/tear dissipated and we are back to the Normal Universe and the Normal Saints.

They weren't gonna resign hicks. They think they will get more mileage from their youth. A TE who can reliably block and catch an occasional pass is missing from this team.

and then having the 2015 draft were moves that were right

we thought hicks was an example of a great 2012 draft, so let's not rush to judgment on 2015

the saints are where young defenders flash early and then fade into irrelevance

That was because of hype and camp hero status.

We're actually seeing our new players play well in real games.

Davison and Peat have barely seen the field in the regular season. Grayson hasn't at all. Williams and Tull won't. Anthony hasn't played particularly well.

Really happy with Kikaha, Swann, and Murphy. I still have high hopes for our first rounders. But we haven't seen nearly enough to start judging our draft.

What position do you think he plays?

I wouldn't describe 64 snaps over three games as "barely seeing the field."

I didn't notice him out there that much. He doesn't have any tackles/sacks/hurries over that span. Not knocking the guy since he's a rookie, but I don't think that his performance adds anything to the "2015 was a good draft" mantra.

Oh were to this point that we hype up players that have proven nothing in this league. Sucks to be a bottom dweller everybody better get used to it.

No but he has 2 QB hurries and 1 QB hit.

I'm just saying, compare this with other drafts.
He's a fifth round rookie playing in every game.
He's not a second round corner who only ever played like 15 snaps for the Saints.
