in my strong opinion, you should always have a punter (or specific special teams guy) work to hold

Agreed, but this was a rookie kicker and he liked Brunell, they should have kept Brunell as the back up QB just for holding.

It was wide left.

Look, I'm not going to say that the hold was perfect or that there might not be something to the hold theory here. For all intents and purposes yesterday, it was all Hartley.

No shite...it had some seriously ugly spin.

If we would have pounded the rock a few times trying to get in the endzone, the kick would have been good if we had gained like another 5 yards.

You're not questioning the playcalling, are you Chip Vaughn?

Not questioning the play calling but more so the game strategy at the end when we have a 1st and 10 at like the 12 and we were moving the ball fairly well down the field and have THE NFL MVP QB on our roster and we just give the game to our emo 23 yr old kicker on 1st down.

The man won and f'ing super bowl for us. Unless he misses his next 5 kicks he shouldn't go anywhere.

I have no idea why coaches line up to kick field goals when they still have downs/time available. With all the things that can go wrong in a kick, why would you not want your hall of fame quarterback to lead you into the end zone and seal the deal.

Kicking a 29 yard field goal in overtime against a divisional opponent in your house, where there is no wind and you play in a dome is a no-brainer.

Not on 1st down. And I think you'll see a different strategy if there is a next time.

Totally agree. Brees was killing them on that drive. He was possessed.

I saw someone with a Hartley jersey walking down the tunnel after the game yesterday. I bet he immediately regretted that purchase.

you are given free opportunities to punch the ball in the endzone for the sure touchdown win. Getting closer to the FG. All increase the chance of victory.

Chad, I bet all other NFL coaches kick that FG. It's a 29 yard field goal. My dad and my father in law were watching the game with me at the time and said the same thing you are saying. I had to remind them that Drew just had his ankle rolled up, Pierre almost got his leg amputated and Chris Ivory lost a fumble in the game already. Hindsight's 20/20. Kicking the FG was, is, and always will be the right call.

It wasn't at the time IMO and I had the thoughts before we attempted the kick. I say you run safe plays to either get closer with another possible first down to obtain or try a couple safe endzone throws with Drew as our QB. I'm not killing Payton now cause of hindsight. I didn't agree with it before and i don't agree with it now.

Sorry, Chad. I have to disagree here. No endzone throw is "safe".

Touche about field goals my friend. We have Drew Brees... I'll take my chances.

Drew couldn't get any power on his throws after the cheap shot evidenced by the throw to Moore in the endzone.
