with the compensation they receive in the Brandin Cooks trade. It's time to think big picture. Sadly Drew's time here is about to come to an end. Saints have too many holes on defense to realistically compete for Super Bowls during Drew's final yr or two. Why not go ahead and lock in your next franchise QB? Sure, he is no sure thing but I would rather take my chances with him than anyone else that might become available over the next few yrs. He has real potential to be the next star of the Saints and we could have our next franchise QB locked in for the next decade.

I'd be all for it if he wasn't crazy expensive and if there were genuine indications that Brees may actually leave if we're not where he wants to be. I think he'd do pretty well with Payton. You're likely going to have to pay the guy pretty well as someone else would take a chance. You're also not going to get those cheaper learning curve years like you would with a rookie.

Why not wait until next year to trade for him if the Pats are likely keeping him unless they get a king's ransom?

The closer he gets to needing a new deal, the less value he has to the Pats.

Careful, any weak arm, trade, release or negative talk about Drew will get you downvoted and accused of being an alter...by the #donttalkaboutdrewdatwaycrowd. Same people who suggested Grayson was the heir apparent and i was like you can't be serious.

We definitely need help on defense, but if we sign that one FA game changer who puts pressure on the QB and follow up with a few good draft picks we can be right back on track. If a few plays go differently last year we are in the playoffs.
- If Robertson doesn't commit DPI against the Raiders in the 4th quarter we win
- If our offense would of shown up against the Giants week 2 we win, (Our defense held Eli & Co to ZERO offensive TDs that week)
-Also lets not forget the Denver game.

My point is we are not far from making the playoffs, and anything can happen when you make the playoffs.

Who's even on the market that you can expect to do that? I think that's draft priority #1, and then you hope kikaha can play next year.

In FA, with the space we have, I'd like to see us add a #1 corner, a safety for depth, and a G.

We should have the space to do all of that

If we trade Cooks, which seems likely, I think we need to add value 2 WRs (one coming in a mid round of the draft) with at least 1 being capable of a deep threat. I also think we need to add a 3rd down back if we're getting rid of him.

In summary

Offense:
Guard
2 WRs (if trading Cooks)
3rd down RB
Offensive line depth via draft

Defense:
De via 1st rounder
Mike
#1 corner
Value safety - depth and allows Vaccaro to play closer to LoS in certain packages

Let's take this idiotic post apart piece by piece

quote:

Careful, any weak arm

One of the best deep ball passers in the NFL over the past few seasons. Still a top 3 passer at hitting the sideline routes too, which is the hardest throw to make in football.

Basically can be statistically proven wrong

quote:

trade,

What about having a NO TRADE CLAUSE do you not seem to comprehend?

quote:

, release

Releasing Drew Brees would result in $37 million in dead money and cost us $18 million in cap space for the 2017 season

So why the frick would we release an elite player for nothing that would cost us $18 million in cap space for 2017?

You have zero posts about Grayson in your history

You have zero posts on Saints Talk from the time he was drafted until he was cut.....

What account did you post it under?

Why would New England do that? Brady is a year older than Brees.

I just don't get all the Garoppolo hype??????

he had what, 1 or 2 good games so now he is a top 10 QB in the league or something?

hell if that is your criteria then we just give the starting QB job to Luke McCown because based on the same limited test used to call for overpaying like hell for a still unknown QB like Garoppolo, then Luke should be an instant success and pro bowl QB for us lol.

Garoppolo hasn't shown shite IMHO to warrant anywhere near the status people are giving him.

brees is our QB for the next 3-4 yrs god willing and thank god for that. you want a QB then draft Watson and let him learn watching drew for a few years

All Pats QBs play well, until they leave the Pats.

Yes, they should.

Trade Cooks for #32 and Garoppolo, then trade Garoppolo to Browns for #12.

#11, #12, #32.
