Saints placed S Rafael Bush on injured reserve with a torn pectoral, ending his season.
It leaves the Saints' safety corps super thin as Jairus Byrd continues to battle swelling in his knee. It's the second straight season Bush has been sent to injured reserve. A broken leg landed him on I.R. after 10 games in 2014. Bush was highly ordinary before going down last year. He'll head into free agency as a 28 year old who's missed 21-of-32 games since the start of the 2013 season.

What kind of cap room does this free up if any?

Why would this free up cap room?

A player on IR only frees up cap if they had a split salary in their contract. Mostly that is just younger players on minimum contracts. So not likely to save anything on Bush.

Because some players have IR ramifications in their contact that affects the guaranteed money and cap space.

5-11 worst case, 7-9 best case. At least we'll get a new coach. Would be nice to trade Brees to Denver for an extra first and start over.

In before "Should We Sharper?"*

That's terrible for Bush. At this point the entire season could hinge on the Safety position.

Desperation Time.

*I know he's unavailable.

On paper we have one of the deepest safety depth charts in football. In reality we have the worst safety depth chart in football

Damn yall need to calm down. Bush has been worthless. Yea I get that depth has been a concern, but I think we can plug in a number of available players (Philips, Warren being two examples) and easily replace the 'void' left by Bush.

if Vacarro goes down or Byrd comes back and sucks or gets injured, that's another thing
