#Saints have restructured LB Dannell Ellerbe's contract, per source, to keep him in New Orleans. He was due $5.2M... LINK

It sounds like we should be pretty well under the cap already right?

I remember when the fins played in the dome and Gruden drooled over Ellerbe

He really had no leverage here with how trades work. No way was be seeing that much $$ on the open market

I actually hope we hit him for 2 years

This should be the official slogan of the 2016 season. I can see the t-shirts now!

I want da numbers

If we extend Drew Brees, there won't be many players we can't fit under the cap.

I'd rather sign a FA guard and add some depth to the dline.

@MikeTriplett: RT @FieldYates: @Jason_OTC Ellerbe's new deal in '16: $1.7M p5, $750k RB, $50k WO (up to $700k in p/t). '17 the same terms, but voids if he plays 80% in 16

Very good for both parties imo. He's a beast when he's on the field

For reference, he was set to be a $5.2 million hit in both 16 and 17 (would have been cut instead)

Now will be:
$3.2 in 2016 and 2017. So we just freed up $2 million while keeping a starter

If Browner is a post June 1st cut, we're under the cap for 2016.

Do they do anything with Spiller's contract?

2.7 mil freed up and if he stays hurt this year it gives us the ability to void his contract next year.

Is it a foregone conclusion we are dumping Spiller?

Nothing was ever released on why he was not utilized more...did the injuries from Buffalo diminish his ability as a game breaker? Was he in the doghouse? or is it possible Sean was giving him a full year to recover as it has been noted in some prior cases that the knee does not fully bounce back immediately.

Seems like we committed to him financially being here at least another year...I would like to take him to training camp with us just to see if he has any fight in him. A cut before hand would just be incredibly disappointing.
