LB Junior Galette, whom Saints are releasing, still must take and pass physical with team this weekend. Once he passes, he will be released.

After a quick look at his contract:
2015: Saves $1.35m (his $1.25m base salary and $100k workout bonus
2016: He Costs us $7m against the cap (the total $12.1m bonus based cap hit - $5.1m base salary/workout bonus)

A lot of people seem excited about this. If you didn't want him on the team anymore, that's fine. But our defense absolutely got worse today, and this signing was a huge disaster for this team.

This. Galette was one of our only consistent pass rushers, really hope the rookies are ready to step up because we need them more than ever.

IDK anyone who would disagree.

Even if the Saints don't pay him b/c of a contractual dispute?

I'm also not really sure he is "in the clear" with the league, esp. after the video came out.

Do we at least get out of his cap hit? Seems unfair we get hit with cap if he's slammed hard by the NFL.

We are absolutely fricked in cap next year. Cya Jordan.

3 suspensions have already came down today so he may be suspended for part of this year and we just dont know yet. that will effect weather someone picks him up.

Agreed. I'm glad they cut him and hopefully it's because the league is going to help with the cap hit and we're going to get some money back. But as a player, he's a big loss on our D. But if Kikaha can play to his potential maybe he'll be forgotten real quick. Plus, you have to like the Saints got rid if his garbage character arse.

The dictionary is your friend.

climate

[ 'klimit ]

NOUN

noun: climate ·
the prevailing trend of public opinion or of another aspect of public life

and yours...

sar·casm
'sär?kaz?m/
noun
noun: sarcasm; plural noun: sarcasms

the use of irony to mock or convey contempt.

Since you couldn't reach high enough to catch what was over your head, I was calling out your ridiculous statement that we should only be cutting woman beating TPOS thugs due to the current state of public opinion. The ethical stance is that Paeyton had no choice due to the egregious actions of TPOS Gallette period, current "climate" be damned. You come off as being in the Bonethug camp of ignoring bad behavior with your statement.

Good luck with that. A-Hern killed a guy and the Patriots couldn't get their money back.

What's the dispute? For all the shite that's happened with him, Junior hasn't been convicted of any crime. Aaron Hernandez is in prison for murder and the Patriots have yet to recover any of his bonus/get cap relief. This post on his situation goes over the CBA language, which is vague to say the least:

No. Jordan was already extended. The Saints wouldn't have released Junior if it meant having to lose a key piece of the DL.

Bonus is earned 100% when you sign the contract. Pro-ration is just a device to let the team spread out the bonus money over the life of the contract. But, if the contract is ended early, the balance of the pro-rated bonus falls due then in terms of the cap hit. Getting rid of Gallette was inevitable. But, the front office needs to be on the hot seat with this deal, and a few other questionable deals they have pulled recently.

after everything that's happened in the offseason this isn't a surprise.

but I guess loading up at OLB/DE in the draft and bringing in Spencer should have been a hint?
