Jalen Ramsey is a much better CB than Latt is, with the same injury concerns. Why would Latt go for more?

Ramsey wanted a new contract.

But according to SI’s Albert Breer on the Greg Bedard Patriots Podcast last week, Ramsey was telling other teams besides the Miami Dolphins that they would need to do a lot more than that if he was going to play for them. They would need to pay him a brand new contract.

“He basically said, in essence, if it’s somebody other than Miami ‘I’m asking for a brand new contract

They’d still tank a serious dead cap hit b

That's why we can't do it. We are still like 50M over the 2024 cap and that would add 20-30M to it.

there’s some perhaps irreversible damage to the Lattimore/Saints relationship that could end in a trade.

That's why we used the option bonus. We are essentially designating him as a June-1 trade (which you can't legally do like cuts, but the option effectively accomplishes the same cap relief...just that we can't trade him until then)

Or at least, if you do trade him, wait until the 2024 trade deadline

Again, with that option bonus we would just be adding 20M in dead cap when we deal him and we won't have the cap space to absorb the acceleration

Missing on Penning is going to hurt way way more than Davenport ever did. Maybe the biggest miss in Saints history

The frick happened to him this year?

He was always kind of a project but he was supposed to be a good-great athlete. The athleticism isn't translating well to play and he's sloppy. He may be a mental midget on top of that (I mean, remember the utter stupidity on his draft reports about watching Saw before games?).

Seems like the coaches decided to go back to square 1 with him, which means they can't start on the total rebuild until the offseason.

New mock has Saints selecting OT Latham from Bama
I would be on board with that or OT Mims from UGA

I think OT would have to be the priority if those two are still available at that spot with Ramczyk uncertainty and Penning being a bust unless they felt Penning could handle RT as compared to the disaster he was at LT

I think its going to be an OT.

Both LT and RT are now HUGE question marks.

Definitely. I would MUCH prefer Latham than Mims if Ram is forced to retire. I really hope Ram can stick it out for another year. We really need him to.

God DAMN I’m so sick of seeing us take OL. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a need, especially if Ram has to retire but we have to be the NFL leaders in OL taken in the first two rounds since Ireland got here and it’s been meh outside of Ram and McCoy. This roster needs talent but we have to start hitting on OL or we’re never going to be able to address other positions of need, positions we haven’t added talent to in a long time

Normally I’d agree but the OL played fine down the stretch, especially Peat at LT. They’re gonna bring him back and probably Hurst. I think they’d add a guard or tackle in the 2nd if Ram comes back, freeing them up to take BPA at 14.

But if Ram retires then they’re forced to go OT. That fricking sucks

assuming we take a OT or EDGE in the 1st. If Jorden Travis is available in the 2nd do you take him?

Its looks to be a good spot for a OT or D liner. The Saints may be able to pull in enough oline help in FA's leaving that 1st rounder for a DT next to Bresee or a DE.

Penix not looking so hot vs a good D

who wont be available :
Williams, Maye, JD, Alt, Fashanu, LATU, Bowers and probably Nabors.

If Latham does slip down , would be a solid pick. he is more athletic than Mims and FUGA. There are a lot of good OTs in this draft so if we get a good offer to move down we should.

Im intrigued by OT SUmamataia if he slips to the 2nd round.

Don’t take Penix. What a choke job. Receivers wide open all over the field and he is lost.

OLUMUYIWA
FASHANU Penn State. 6-6 319 lbs. team captain.

OT has to be the pick for sure. Not interested in QB; Carr does what we need

I'm wondering if there will be a change at offensive line coach.
