Yup right on cue. I suspect Graham is next, and then Galette if we can't find a trade partner.

Lofton seems gone either way (trade or cut as it saves the same amount).

Why isn't everything a signing bonus, then? I don't understand the salary cap at all.

Because it would be fully guaranteed in that case. No protection for team. Think there is a limit as well set by the league but not sure

Two reasons. When a deal is first made the signing bonus can only be spread over the first five years. Byrd has a six year deal. This allows us to spread money into the sixth year.

Also, if it was all signing bonus it is all guaranteed as soon as the deal is done. A second year roster bonus allows you protection from injury or poor play in year one. If things work out you change it to a signing bonus. If they don't you cut bait.

So why didn't we cut bait?

Believe me I was blindsided at first too. Clearly they don't trust him enough to guarantee him that much money. Damn shame because he played well the last two years.

What a terrible pick up this turned out to be. Paid him millions for nothing

We still have him for five more years. Slow your roll.

He missed ALL of the off-season last year and then was just thrown in. We had no time for everyone to see how it all worked together.

This year, hoping for good health, he'll be good for ALL of this off-season. That will make a huge difference.

Exactly.
They will have time to see that having him play 50 yards from the line of scrimmage is a bit much

Yeah let's not give him another year or anything. Complete waste, we should just cut him.

Agreed. But, ML is looking at his calendar and realizing he has 5 more days to go to get under the cap. So, in his mind he has all the time in the world.
