Saints are just NFL filler, and the Saints brass is good with that.

New Orleans is not top 20 big city.
Jets, Bears, Giants, Eagles, Rams, Chargers, Cowboys, Texans, Cardinals, Jaguars, 49ers, Colts, Panthers,Seahawks,Lions, and Broncos have those cities covered.

Saints aren't a historically successful smaller city franchise either like the Steelers, Patriots, Commanders, or Packers.

Saints are a bottom 3rd NFL franchise. The Owner collects free money and every few years gets to strut around like a peacock hosting other cities teams in her city.

Saints do have somewhat of a large brand presence on the Gulf Coast.

So while New Orleans isn’t a big city per se, the regional fan base lets says from Lake Charles to Tallahassee or so covers a lot of ground and a large number of fans.

Unless you consider the 30 minute drive you have to take to Ponte Vedra to play Sawgrass, I'm not sure Jacksonville is considered a big city bro.

And despite all that, we were the most successful franchise in our division until TB brought in a mercenary Tom Brady to buy their second Super Bowl. Our struggles right now are 100% due to the incompetence of the ownership and management of the franchise. To me, these things can be easily fixed but it doesn’t seem that they are willing to do so.

Jacksonville is the biggest city you never hear about. Biggest city by area in the country.

There's east and west Jax, with downtown in the middle, almost like two different cities.

Frankly, I'm surprised it doesn't have a bigger professional sports presence.

That’s the cities proper not the metro area. Jacksonville is larger than New Orleans but it is bottom half of the NFL

The franchise is in a bad situation. First, it has an owner that doesn't really want to be an owner. Nor is she someone who earned her fortune through her own toils (Though I guess letting Benson's wrinkly old balls lay on you could be considered a "toil"). Thus, she has no real desire to be involved. She just defers to Loomis/Lauscha on EVERY decision. Her only role is simply to sign the checks.

With an owner that doesn't care enough to unilaterally make changes the GM can act with complete impunity. He's not going to fire himself. And I think Loomis has reached the point where ego/arrogance are controlling his decision making. He hears the booing and bitching of the fans. He just doesn't care. He was the GM of the Super Bowl team and he's going to show the idiot fans he's smarter than all of them. That it wasn't just (primarily) Payton and Breese who were responsible for the great success. It was just as much him!

In a nutshell, the Godfather died; Sonny and Michel are no longer in the family; and Fredo is now in charge...and he's going to show you all!!!

People are moving to Florida in droves. Louisiana and maybe MS are only southern states stagnating or losing population.

They get the guaranteed check for the TV money. Tickets are 90%+ sold and they have a sweet deal with the state for the Dome.

All Gayle cares about is banking money. I think something like $20 million a year.
