That's not talking shite, that's telling the truth.

Ah, the always reliable unnamed source.
Rob did such a great job with the D, that Payton was forced to interfere the following year.
Or maybe it was Rob got lucky and we had a pass rush for that one year?

I will definitely say their leadership was missed, but production wise, it just wasn't there for them two. Not sure if Jenkins would have been better staying at CB.
Saints never filled that leadership void, and it hurt. Byrd was supposed to be the savior, and of course, no one could have seen how his tenure would have played out to this point.

This is the part I don't get, and I'm not saying it's not true, but is he THAT much of a control freak? I can't imagine CSP having that much input on the defensive side of the ball. At least not more than "get Drew the ball back".

I know we are all frustrated about the track record of Payton's defenses since he took over as Saints coach, but there is no way I am taking Rob Ryan's finger pointing as anything but him trying to save face and being the typical Ryan now that his brother is here to protect him.
Rob Ryan has a long history of being an underwhelming coordinator wherever he has been. For him to call himself great is laughable. And as Evan Woodberry said, "it's always his defense when it is good, and someone else's when things are bad."
By using hindsight, he wants to say that letting Harper and Jenkins leave were mistakes, but Harper and Jenkins were both pretty bad when they were here. From Harper's inability to cover and Jenkins dropping easy interceptions and taking bad angles on tackles, almost the entire fan base was ready for them to leave. And you can give me Vacarro and Byrd on paper any day over those two, but again, hindsight.
Rob Ryan wasn't Payton's first or second choice, and was a desperate hire by a team that dragged its feet during the coaching search. Ryan's lack of intensity, preparation, and discipline is what ultimately did him in, and while Payton is no angel either in this situation, I'm not going to nod my head along with Ryan now that he has big brother Rex to protect him.

I could see him seeing how the defense is performing in practices and discussing it during meetings and things not sitting well with him. He obviously felt a need to meddle, and then inject Allen into the fold.
Whatever Ryan did or was doing, he lost Payton's trust very quickly.

But what would cause him to do that after the 2013 season?
Looking at the stats, the one glaring thing I see from the '13 defense is from week 9 (loss to the Jets) on through the playoffs (2 games), they only created 4 turnovers. 4 turnovers in 10 games. And that's been plaguing this defense forever it seems like.

I hardly believe CSP took over the defense after Ryan did so well his first year.
That makes no sense.
However, the whole signing Byrd without consulting Ryan thing is strange, and telling.

you let an All-Pro safety walk, Malcolm Jenkins
Just caught this. Bit of an embellishment to support your argument since he wasn't actually an all pro with your defense.
Maybe he's confused about the all pro safety we actually brought in.

Still looking for the "shite" part.
Was this part one?

Title should have read "Rob Ryan nuking every bridge in the New Orleans area".

I don't disagree with what he said. Should've never let Jenkins walk.
This is absolutely fricking ridiculous, and complete bullshite. The entire fanbase constantly talked insane amounts of shite about Jenkins and said good riddance when he was gone.
Hindsight is 20/20, of course.

How can u take Byrd over anyone. That undermines ur objectivity. One interception, 40 million dollars

Did you even read the rest of his post? Hell, that sentence?

I actually agree with him that we would have been so much better off resigning Jenkins and Harper than the signing of Byrd. But hindsight is 20/20.
I think he deserves his share of criticism, but he was definitely the scapegoat of what I don't believe was 100% his fault.
