They probably thought they had no chance to get Ohio State corner Marshon Lattimore when the draft started, but they end up getting him in the 11th spot. That was a nice pick of the top corner. I didn't love the pick of Wisconsin tackle Ryan Ramczyk with the 32nd pick -- he has some medical issues and is that really a major need? -- but they added some nice players later in Utah safety Marcus Williams in the second and pass rusher Troy Hendrickson in third. I also think third-round linebacker Alex Anzalone from Florida has a chance to a long-time starter if he stays healthy. That's a big if, based on his career.

Grade: B

He openly despises Payton and makes no bones about it at all.

He must think it's an A++++++

that is quite a give from asshat Prisco. Good idea: someone compile all the grades on the Saints draft. I see more A's than anything else. I spose that is my frustration with the influx here running the selections and the organization down. I know it's the peril of being on an LSU based board but it's the worst I've noted outside of gamedays. At least most of them will be gone from here by tomorrow I hope.

Most draft grades I've seen has up at an A also.

To those who despise the pick of the offensive tackle from Wisconsin, no one could have seen an intra-divisional trade happening between Seattle and San Fran. That happens and that is why Lynch's moves were seen in such a positive light--no one saw it coming.

We got the right guy at that pick for what we do as an offense. Just as Jax got the right tackle in Robinson for what they plan on doing in their offense.

Love the Safety pick up as we now become a ball-hawking secondary with a great run-stuffer in Bell.

I believe Hendrickson is going to be one of the steals of the draft in the end. Hard-nose kid who will play similar to Ninkovich of the Patriots. He will get on some juice probably and define that body to earn those $$$..

Anzalone is really the only question mark. I question the pick, but if he can play a full-season he will be a lightning bug out there and very disruptive--pardon the pun.

The defensive end from Miami with proper tutelage and mentorship could be a steal too. Perfect some technique and get him tough. He has the tools to excel in this league if his head can be straightened out off the field.

Lots of if's, but that is the entire draft: IFS

I have been as critical of this front office's drafting over the years, but I am convinced we absolutely beasted this draft.

People don't realize how good Williams is. He will make an impact from day one. Adding him and Lattimore to this secondary is incredible. If Lattimore is healthy there's a chance we legit got one of the best players in this draft at 11.

Then you add a new piece to the OL which I will never discount, and every player we took below that has the physical measurables and potential I like in late round picks.

Best draft in years IMO.

Very solid points and just tonfurther add, yes we can sit here and think Ram well predictably take over from Strief but even this year, you never knownifnArmstead ornStrief can each stay healthy and if we keep Peat at Guard , Ramczyk is incredibly needed tackle insurance.

Tells me he doesn't know what's really going on with the Saints. He's merely a headline reader with a national stage.

Some of these analysts were stating #1 need for the Saints were at Guard ,safety, interior d-line , which clearly shows they were glossing over and meeting a deadline.

The grades for the Saints varied after the selection of Marshon Lattimore in the first round. Ryan Ramczyk and Alvin Kamara might find it hard to get playing time early in their careers, and the team didn’t properly address pass rusher.

Doesn't understand how often we use a scatback and 6th offensive lineman

Also doesn't realize how poorly strief has been run blocking in recent years.

quote:

After that, things got strange. With two more third-round picks, the Saints reached for an injury-prone linebacker in Florida’s Alex Anzalone, then again for a low-ceiling edge rusher in FAU’s Trey Hendrickson, despite much better talent available at the position. Three rounds later, the Saints got a rusher with more upside in Miami’s Al-Quadin Muhammad.

What other rushers were available when Hendrickson was picked? I agree, I would have preferred Derek rivers instead of analzone. But can't be too mad since he has tremendous upside if he's healthy.

quote:

And then, things took a turn for the worse. The Saints began neglecting their poor defense, spending two of their next three picks on offensive players. Their No. 32 overall selection was especially confusing, as they didn't need a right tackle at all. Despite this, they selected an injury-prone blocker who quit football once in Ryan Ramczyk. The following night, they gave up a 2018 second-round pick for Alvin Kamara. I like Kamara as a prospect, but why trade resources for a running back when it's not a need, and numerous defensive positions must be addressed?

Even the other defensive picks weren't great. Marcus Williams is athletic, but deemed soft by other teams. Alex Anzalone is injury-prone. Al-Quadin Muhammad is a trouble-maker. I liked the Trey Hendrickson selection, but that's about it.

Lattimore and Hendrickson save the Saints from having an atrocious grade for their draft, but their performance this weekend is worth either a "C" or a C-. I debated between the two grades, and I opted for the former because those two prospects should be able to help the defense, while Kamara could be a solid weapon down the road.

Of the top 6 picks, 4 were defensive. The other 2 were picks that filled needs that have been semi-neglected for a few years. It's not like we splurged on a wide receiver.

Crying about a 6th round pick who has tremendous upside with problems is ridiculous. The investment is so little but the payoff could be tremendous.

Once again. Agree with analzone.

They disagree with a lot of people about Marcus Williams. I thought he'd been gone in the mid-late 1st because hooker would be a top 10 pick. He's a ball hawk with athleticism, we've sorely missed that

ABC gives it a B because of the cooks trade. Which is ridiculous since it shouldn't affect the grade overall. They also give high grades on everyone minus kamara's value. Giving up a future 2nd for someone who had a grade of a 2nd this year while only giving up a 7th isn't a bad trade either.

Whatever it takes. The league gives ample opportunity to put in work and have the intelligence to get off. If you can't understand cycles and how to time a cycle (on and off) then you deserve what you have already.

Plenty of players all over the league do it year in and year out. Some have perfected it (a la James Harrison). The league more than gives those who are smart enough to take advantage of their lax drug policy the ability to do what it takes to be a better product. Smart business.
