Positional importance trumped talent.

He has the potential to #8 if he happens to fall to the Saints. Barnett is that good. He reeks of greatness. Team leader, intelligent, infectious motivational attitude, motor that doesn’t quit, great burst off the snap, power, an array of pass rush moves & stout against the run. He has every quality that it takes to be an all time great.

Remember Ole Miss was a shite program at the time. Secondly, there were questions about his speed. He cleared that up at the combine & his pro day. Finally, he had numerous injuries at Ole Miss that raised questions about his durability long term just like Duece had coming out of Ole Miss.

quote:

In spite of a broken middle finger, a torn MCL, a broken bone in his foot, and a separated right shoulder, Willis still managed to lead the nation with 90 solo tackles his first year as a starter. It wasn't hard to spot Willis' 6-foot-1, 240-pound frame flying around the field with his right hand contained in a club-like cast.

The only player I'll be pissed about if we pick is Tim Williams. Anybody else I'm good with

If we can't sign fairly what about moving down a couple spots and taking Walker FSU?
The first time I got to watch him the kid was on fire vs Michigan.

Mike Singletary said the same thing.

From the link in my previous post:

"Every time I saw [Willis on game tape], he had a cast on his ankle, he had a cast on his forearm...what's up with this guy?" laughs Mike Singletary, then-linebackers coach for the 49ers. "When I heard his story, I was like, ‘Wow! I'm impressed. We've got to get this kid.'"

Speaking of Singletary, I wonder if we can get him as LBs coach. He was on Jeff Fisher's staff with the Rams. I take it that whoever the new head coach will be, will put together his own staff.

He then went on to play 112/128 possible games (regular season) and stepped into the league as arguably a top 5 LB in his first year

Singletary was a LB coach that year as well.

Walker is a defensive end. We would need another defensive tackle if Fairley can't be resigned or one isn't signed in FA. If you looking at DTs, Malik McDowell is the guy to look at.

The thing about trying down is it's easier said than done. Trading down always sounds like a great idea every draft but in order to move down, there has to be a team wanting to move up. The cost to move up is pricey, which makes the idea of finding a partner to make a deal with just that more difficult.

Ah maybe FSU had someone lined up on his outside as it looked liked he rushed from the interior a lot.

Agree on trading down and I've been predicting it for years now with no success I figure one damn year I will be right.

And yes. If the DE from the vols is not there I predict we trade down

You have credit Singletary for realizing Willis' ability to tough it out through injury instead of just saying he was just injury prone. The truth is, playing through pain for Willis was a walk in the park compared to his childhood. He had some very tough early years & football became his out from the horrors at home. If you never heard the story behind it, do so. You will understand how he became the player he was.

This is a no brainer. The Saints have the better roster overall along with a future Hall of Fame QB. The Rams have front 4 defensive talent(Aaron Donald, Robert Quinn) Ogletree at LB, a decent secondary & Todd Gurley. Their offensive line is shite, a young QB who looks lost & 1 decent WR in Kenny Britt.

By the way, you still think we should have taken Randy Gregory in the 2015 draft?

Honestly looking at the kind of player we need, I hope we get Williams if Barnett is off the board by 11.

He is the speed rusher we need opposite of Cam. He actually compares really well to Demarcus Ware when he was coming out of Troy too. 11 might be high for a dude that initially would be used for passing down situations, but he would definitely develop into someone who could be an every down end over the course of a season or two.

If both are gone, Marlon Humphrey would be an excellent grab.
