PFF Takeaways from the game

The Saints had several offensive linemen who finished the game with below-average grades, none lower than starting LG Tim Lelito. He allowed a sack, a hit, and a hurry, which led to the lowest pass-blocking grade of the game, and was beaten as a run-blocker multiple times to earn the lowest run-blocking grade as well. After an impressive first preseason game, rookie WR Michael Thomas was far less effective against the Texans. On 30 routes ran, he caught just one five yard pass and his other target led to an interception.
The Saints lost rookie first-round pick DT Sheldon Rankins earlier this week to injury for an extended period of time, but if free agent signee Nick Fairley performs like he did on Saturday night, the Saints will be fine at defensive tackle. Fairley had two run stops on just four snaps in run defense, and caused a holding penalty. As a pass-rusher, he had a sack and a pressure on 14 pass rush snaps. CB P.J. Williams was beaten by Fuller for the 19-yard touchdown early in the game, but he bounced back well with a pass defense and an interception later in the game. With Keenan Lewis released on Friday, Williams is (so far, at least) looking like he could be a solid starter opposite Delvin Breaux.

The O Line play was clearly the most troubling aspect of this game IMO. I'm thinking this season's end result will be followed by either:
A) Payton and Loomis sure knew we had what we needed already at guard
or
B) Why the frick did they not get one of the veteran guards available like we cried for

Lelito might be the worst O-linemen I've ever seen.
How the Saints can justify keeping both he and Peat on the roster is beyond me... unless Deshawn Watson is the objective.

because one guy is a 1st rounder going into his 2nd year into the league...
That is reactionary complaints, considering the worse options AFTER Peat on this roster. That and the obvious fact you LOSE money cutting Peat this year which makes no sense to do, but then again half of you calling for his head don't make any sense at all anyway.
We've seen lots of players struggle in their first year and not "get it" until they get adequate playing time halfway into their 2nd year.

Ever since I say Lelito drinking at JB's (a shithole bar in Metairie) on a Friday night last season when we had a Sunday home game, I knew this dude would not amount to dick
Im not sure there is any leadership within that OL unit.

Armstead is elite, Unger is good. Then it's basically sacks of potatoes

Turner and kelemete might as well start

I've been calling for Kelemete to start over (or opposite of) Lelito. He is solid (but not spectacular). He'll get the job done enough.
And he played very well (considering) filling in for Armstead when he went down last year.

Might as well give Kelemete a chance. Lelito & Peat looked like complete dogshit last night. Just imagine if Watt actually played.

Jack Allen played some Guard in college. I know Payton likes him.

didn't really impress me last night... i know they say he's having a good camp, but i thought Turner was more adept last night than Allen... not like either are really good or anything, but you know...

What kills me about Lelito is Dallas tried stealing him away and we fricking matched.
