To be honest, this isn't the worst option. Is there a QB in this draft that jumps out at you? Getting a good QB FA will cost you the moon.

I am not against re-signing Jameis. I actually probably like him more than a lot of our fans and I think long term he could be our franchise QB

My point was more around the thought that they're trying to just "run it back" with most things the same, but obviously without our HoF Coach at the helm (which is a huge loss if the staff is mostly the same otherwise). Realistically with Pete at OC, the offense will require a large influx of talent to get to a reasonable spot, whereas a new mind may have been able to get more of our existing players (just by virtue of new eyes).

Essentially, unless they hit a home run in the draft and FA process, the team is probably going to be worse just because the coaching staff has certainly gotten worse.

I wish we’d go back to being a ground and pound team with good PA. The 49ers offense with that solid defense is great.

Some of you forget games where Pete was the sole caller of plays with NFL caliber players and not Best Buy employees and it shows. There were times where Payton would become too predictable or stubborn. In games Pete has called the plays, with NFL starter talent, the offense has rolled.

It's a fair point, but Sean was also there for gameplan design and input.

That doesn't mean Pete can't do that too, but it just worries me

Also the scenario I described earlier in the thread scares me. What happens when there's just no weapons we like at our early draft picks? When we can't afford upgrades we want in FA? When this offense rolls out looking similar to last year, personnel-wise? I just feel like a fresh mind and set of eyes might have had a vision for some of our players that Sean & Pete didn't, whereas Pete will probably look at it the same way Sean would and we will end up with similar issues

We would be fricked

The freshest of eyes won’t make a taysom/Siemian/book QB room work. Or no Michael Thomas or WR2. Or the injuries and covid bullshite

The personnel needs to be upgraded regardless of OC. We have enough capital and money to roll out a revamped offense with a mostly in tact defense

Great. Now fix the skill positions. They're awful.

This seems like…”Hey, we really don’t want you to be the OC but we really can’t find anyone else. You want to do it again?”

We get to relive Orgeron coaching hires but at the NFL level.

not against it but feels weird. saints have underachieved last few years. lose payton and presumably need a new approach and the DC is promoted and same OC.

Or you could hire someone and we come out worse or maybe Pete has some ideas and vision that Sean wouldn't let him attempt to implement. Because as great of a coach Sean was, we know he had an ego and his thumb on everything. And on the flip side if it wasn't all Sean in the end, Pete also gets credit for making jameis look better last year.

Spot on. Just lazy hiring all around. Hope I’m wrong and get flamed for years on here for it, but this is the least excited I’ve been for the Saints in a very long time.

I feel like we’re going to get a rigged super bowl in our favor very quickly. It was always about Payton with Goodell. The team, city, and roster have been on our wokest behavior last few years. Even our recent battery arrest wasn’t of the domestic variety. Let’s go!!
