Peat was a bad pick and a guard is not worth the 13, but...

If he feels more comfortable playing on the left side and can be an above average LG next to Armstead for the next 5-6 years, it may not have been the worst pick ever. We'll just have to address the right side asap. I like that we extended Unger for rather cheap. If we can sign/draft a RT and RG, the line might be set for a while. I was pleasantly surprised Sunday with the OL.

I still wish we would have gone with Marcus Peters but as long as Peat keeps playing well and keeping Lelito off the field, I'm fine with him.

Yep. Hated the pick, but he'll just get better and better with experience. He can provide LT depth as well imo if Armstead goes down.

I'd put our oline priorities are 1) RG and 2) RT

I'm not giving up on Kelemete yet either for RG or RT either. The guy can pass block.

Well, that's dramatic.

The ideal scenario is he can be what kelechi osemele is for the Raiders. Plays LG really well, bounces to tackle when he needs to during injury and still plays well.

Peters would have solved a bunch of problems we are having with secondary.

He's like a NASCAR driver. He can only go left.

I can't say I like or hate the pick, but what I just don't understand is that if the Saints were picking for a player to play guard why the frick did they draft a left tackle?

It's an honest question.

I loved the pick and was wrong. With that said, the safety of picking a tackle is you can always move them inside. Hopefully he pans out and will contribute.

I specifically watched his play on Sunday. He was mauling and standing the dline up all game. We had some good runs to his side. Obviously Drew had time in the passing game as well. I saw Jahri blow a few pick ups and let some guys in unblocked. That's concerning. But I thought peat played well.

I'm not getting into the Peat pick because he is JUST starting his second year and is very young.

But yeah the right side is old as shite and we need replacements asap. They held well game one but my worry is how their bodies hold up throughout the year.

They were drafting him to replace Strief. If we had better guards he may have done that this year.

But if he keeps playing well at LG we'll likely grab another tackle to replace Strief.

Yeah he played LT in HS and some in college. He is a natural pass blocker.

His run blocking is not so great though, which makes for a piss poor RG and just a decent RT.

I'd be okay with him replacing Strief, but we need to find a RG because NO ONE we had before resigning Evans can play that spot. I think that is why we struggled so much in preseason.

I think it's clear they drafted what they thought would be a starting RT. What they got instead was a starting LG and backup LT. Again, not worth the 13th pick, but it looks like--at least for now--that he's not gonna be a bust and a pretty good guard.

i dont remember running left at all Sunday. Besides that option that Brees kept, unless that was a broken play

This whole you don't draft guards early is complete bullshite. Teams do this every year.

Maybe you don't draft them top 5 unless you know they are surefire all pro, but the really good guards go early too.

It was like everyone freaking on Dallas for taking a center early. That worked out extremely well for them.

Now if we want to debate if Peat is a good player or not I say you go ahead. I'll wait to see how he does in only his second year.

So if he becomes a solid starter for 6 years, then he might not be the worst pick ever? Way to go out on a limb there.
