The 49ers would be way less likely to throw a pass on the other side of the timeout.

Sorry guys, simple misunderstanding of the rule. I thought the clock stopped on incomplete passes.

Again, you are assuming that the plays would be exactly the same.

Most likely, the 49ers would have run on one of those two last plays. Calling the TO at 2:01 changed that strategy greatly, giving them no advantage in doing so.

Agreed. Is limiting their playbook not a good thing?

They threw a pass, because they knew the clock was stopping for the 2 min warning regardless of whether it was a run or pass.

We wouldn't have had to use a timeout on that play regardless of what happened.

yes they could run to force us to use a timeout, but then we are forcing them to limit their playbook. That's why a timeout is more valuable than 2 minute warning. You are not forced to take it when the clock is stopped anyway.

It was second and 19, we forced them right where we wanted them. Kaep throwing the ball.

Not when our defense wants them to pass.

Payton wanted them to pass. He had faith in his D to force incompletions or keep them in front of the sticks.

He was right.

We didn't force them to pass. We simply allowed them to have the option to do whatever they thought was best with no disincentive.

I think the biggest impact of the timeout was that it kind of forced the 49ers to pass on that second down. If the two minute warning happens before second down they could have ran it on second and third forcing the Saints to burn two timeouts. So basically it was the same outcome but made the 49ers offense more predictable

We need to fire Payton and hire Miles.

Did I do it right?

If you don't see how the timeout increased their chances of passing, then you'll never come to terms with it not being a bad call.

Wrong. You misinterpreted the situation. The 2 minute warning happening after the play ensured that the effect of the clock would be exactly the same for a run or pass. That means their playcalling is not affected by clock management. That makes it less predictable, not more.

Sorry if some of you don't understand that. There's nothing more to argue on that matter.

I'm sure The Sexecutioner knows more about these things than Sean Payton.

He seriously COULD be making 8 mill a year coaching football, he just chooses not to. Its far more rewarding sitting in his parents garage.

Strawman. I never said it didn't increase their chances of passing. It obviously did.

If you paid attention to the announcers yesterday, I know that is a chore, that stated that by calling that TO it gave the refs more time to look at the play. If he didn't call the TO then they would have had to make a decision within 60 seconds.

No I was at the game. And, it's the rules to look at all turnovers on replay. None of this give the refs more time bullshite

The owners also approved automatic instant replay review of all turnovers. A coach no longer will have to use one of his instant replay challenges to seek review of a turnover.
