Tom Silverstein @TomSilverstein One FA the #Packers are expected to consider is OLB Parys Haralson. Veteran pass rusher whom they were interested in when 49ers had him.

I haven't heard much about him anywhere else, including the Saints.

This guy is a Packers beat writer

We don't have a lot of depth at OLB.

Damn, I'd definitely like to bring him back. Does this guy consider him a pass rusher just because he plays 3-4 OLB? He's way more productive at defending the run and dropping in coverage than he is rushing the passer.

I liked the trade at the time of acquiring him and was really sad when he got injured. I hope Loomis can find the cap room to retain his services.

We actually have 5 "OLBs". Galette, Johnson, Butler, Dawson, and Knox.

Depends on how you view our LBs. Because I see it more as Galette and Johnson are DEs, meaning our LBs are Lofton, Hawthorne, Reddick, Butler, Dawson, Johnson, and Knox.

So we have 7-9 LBs total, and we would actually need another "ILB" with only 3 over "OLB" with 4-6.

All that said I would love Haralson back as veteran depth.

Different skill sets. Like I said above, Haralson's production comes from coverage, and defending the run. Butler is there to provide a pass rush.

He's not a pass rusher. A good comparison is Ahmad Brooks in Frisco.

I always forget Rufus and Dawson.

Who is Knox?

Who is Johnson?

Also, I think the team might be high on Kyle Knox. He's a freak athlete and really good special teams player. He was a gunner towards the end of the year with us. A linebacker was a gunner. That's a position that Wrs and corners with speed play.

Eta: never mind, you're talking about Rufus. Gotcha.

Yeah I forgot about Dawson when talking about our LBs last night.

I think at the moment we are 3 deep at ILB and OLB with legit depth(again counting Galette and Johnson separate), but we have two more young guns at OLB that we are developing.

I really think we need to find that speed ILB to help "complete" our defense.

Looks like another year of playing Junior as a down-lineman due to lack of depth. There's just no way the address both the secondary and LB corps this year in FA. Spreads us too thin on the Graham situation and the outstanding Oline concerns.
