What sucks is we were starting to see an end to the kneeling. You had a handful of guys doing that. Very easy to ignore that. Once Trump said the SOB line and just dove into shite he shouldn't have I knew this would be a mess. Now instead of enjoying a Saints win we have endless political arguments. The media wins.

Not sure about the media winning, they are just reporting the news the POTUS created, but WE all lose. IF he doesn't open his mouth and chime in at rally about this topic....NONE of what happened this past weekend occurs....NONE of it. He gave them a stage. Instead of focusing his efforts on the health care debate or expedited disaster relief (for thousands in TX, FL and the Puerto Rico w/o power and homes) he dives into the NFL...cmon man, act and talk like the POTUS.

most of whom can't even figure out basic subject-verb agreement (and verb tenses). I don't know who was calling the Denver game, but just in the bit I watched, I heard, "He could have ran...," "He should have went," and a bonus, "Unexplicable."

I could listen to Tony Romo talk about anything.

I'll say it once and I will say it again. The NFL brought politics into the game by playing the game at every sporting event and forcing the players to all stand.

Maybe you never thought about it before and it doesn't bother you. But that is definitely political.

The only hate and division is coming from the people who are against the kneeling. Very fine people.

When 52 people are expected to stand in unison and 3 sit in opposition, this falls under the exact definition of "division."

noun: division

1.
the action of separating something into parts, or the process of being separated.

Maybe constantly escaping is the problem.

NFL didn't invent respect for the Flag, throughout AMERICAN history, it is has ALWAYS been to STAND for the National Anthem, remove your cap and face the Flag....it's called respect for your country and respect to the men and women who fought and died for this country....Newsflash: a Patriot is not just a football mascot, it's a way of life! Rest easy under your blanket of freedom tonight, much blood was shed by our forefathers to provide it, how dare anyone ask you to stand and pay respect for 45 seconds!

They died so people can do things like protest. There have been a number of veterans that have come out in support of these athletes. They don't speak for all veterans but I'm pretty sure these athletes aren't intending to disrespect the military.

Ok but let's be clear...I have no problems with the protest at all. I have a problem with a representative of a tax subsidized team in an official capacity, deliberately display defiance of this country during the anthem. You want to be disrespectful to the country, do it on your time and dime, not on federal and state subsidized time. I pay you to play football and generate economic growth, not to display your misgivings for the president during a sign of respect for our nation...it's not the venue

By the way: I agree with the players, full disclosure: Trump made some dumb arse comments and SHOULD be protested.....NOT THIS WAY! They crossed the line. They are idolized by our children. Children should not see this type of disrespect for our country and think that is a proper response....it's ludicrous

Maybe constantly escaping is the problem.

Maybe CONSTANTLY escaping would be a problem, but 3 hrs on a Sunday afternoon, with another 3 or so on a Saturday for college games, is not constant.

I'm a white, working/middle class guy with a 3 bedroom house in a modest neighborhood in BR, my house is over 60 yrs old. Have a small yard. I work fulltime to pay my bills and put my kid into college (I make too much for grants, but not enough to get too far ahead). My autos are old but paid off, I spend money in maintaining both house and cars to keep things as nice as I can. My cellphone is 4 yrs old, I have other things to do with my money instead of spending hundreds of dollars to replace a functional device.
Utility poles in my neighborhood are standing at slants, they have never been straightened since Katrina.

I turn on local news and see we have an ever-rising crime and murder rate; a new death is on the front page of the Advocate's website every day. I turn on national news and it doesn't matter if we have a Category 5 hurricane bearing down on us, the main storyline is still politics.

The sun hasn't risen yet when I drive to work, and it's down when I drive home. I have ESPN Radio on to hear about sports, and the most-discussed topic is the protests and kneeling at both times. If I wanted that, I would turn to talk radio.
For what it's worth, I work in heathcare, and treat people of any and all color. Blood is red for everyone, that's the only relevant color I know, and I do my best to keep it where it should be, and not where it shouldn't.

I work, I try to live my life the way we're taught to. I'm not racist, sexist, or any other -ist, I'm just trying to do the right thing and get through each day.
Football is entertainment, sports is entertainment. I want a little escape and entertainment in my life, between the next round of scheduled bills and additional maintenance expenditures. It doesn't make me an isolationist.

Should we not watch football to enjoy life a little? Should we also have a period in each blockbuster movie where the actors and directors stop the story, and lecture us on how terrible our country is? Should we also cancel Christmas and birthday parties, and instead gather around a table to discuss what horrible atrocities the nation commits daily? People bitching about "privilege" is a little out of place, when the guys bitching have made more money in a signing bonus to play a game with zero effect on day-to-day living, than I will make in my career taking care of people who would otherwise die if not for the care of people who work in my profession.
Forgive me if I want a little "escape" and time for myself.

Rant over, sorry if that went beyond the original topic.
