Nfl.com power rankings

"Speculation abounds as to whether this Saints offense is going to change its M.O. and go much more run-heavy. It would make sense, considering the inept play of the defense last season and the fact that the team's best pass rusher is now suiting up in Washington. That said, how do you not applaud coach Sean Payton and GM Mickey Loomis for cleaning up that locker room and changing the approach? By the way, Jimmy Graham was still a rising draft prospect when New Orleans won Super Bowl XLIV. We do wish rookie offensive lineman Andrus Peat looked better, or that we could see safety Jairus Byrd -- who spent most of last season on injured reserve with a torn meniscus -- at all."

Power rankings, especially preseason power rankings, are like buttholes. Don't read too much into them.

Being ranked 25th makes it a little rougher, but we play the games right and win enough games; we will be able to get in position to win the Mythical National Championship at the end of the year.

Preseason power rankings are an absolute joke.

I came in here just to say that.

Bye.

We have a lot of question marks. If they end up being positives, we win the division and are in the playoffs with 10+ wins. If they are negatives... it's not like we haven't lived through shitty seasons before. Big roster turn around and young unproven players. Hoping they step up.

I do find it amusing that a team that went 7-9 with the following:

Loss by 3 to ATL in OT after a fumble by Colston
Loss by 2 to Cleveland on a late play.
Loss by 1 to Detroit on a last 5 minute 2 TD score surge
Loss by 3 to SF in OT after an inexplicable play

That's 4 losses by a combined 9 points, with the losses all coming in the last seconds of the games.

That makes the Saints 11-5 instead of 7-9. That's why I laugh at people expecting them to be so bad. The defense can't be much worse, and the offensive will be more explosive with the players they've brought in. Graham limited the offense because he couldn't run block and made them predictable. The Saints lose Galette and some depth on the line, but get back a ton of injured defensive starters and added Browner, Ellerbe, Anthony and the Pineapple Express.

For them to be ranked the 8th worst team in the league is hilarious.

All of this. But "analyst" are the laziest, non researching mfers on the planet. They look at the previous record, minus Graham, assume shitty defense, and boom. We are on auto suck before the first snap of a football.

Sounds about right for a team that was projected for a Super Bowl berth and couldn't even win the worst division in football.

I'm setting my expectations low this year for the boys in Black and Gold. There is not one single position on this club that I'm feeling totally confident with, and that includes Drew Brees. I'll be watching every game screaming at the TV but I just can't see this total overhaul jelling together for a championship run. This season I'll take a Wildcard game. Anything else would be gravy (and surprising).

You should be confident at QB, RB, T, and C.

I also think we're solid at corner and DE.

Look, I Love Drew Brees. I have his jersey ready to be framed and passed down to my grandson. However, if he forces throws like he did last year because of poor pass protection, we will have close to the same record. And I noticed WR wasn't one of your positions to feel confident about. Maybe it's a bad taste left from last season but Brees has to stop forcing throws under pressure. Watching those picks last season was brutal.

So then the issue is pass protection...

He was PFFs top rated QB last season. He led the NFL in accuracy % and is still considered an elite QB

So it's laughable to lack confidence at a position where only 3-4 teams have someone that is at least an equal

Because of unknowns. Our drop % can't be worse than it was last year.

I mean yea they were brutal, but he also made a ton of huge plays under pressure. His sack % was outstanding last year. If he held the ball and ate it while under pressure, we wouldn't have been in any games last year with our defense and starting field position.

Should the Colts not be confident in Andrew Luck? Falcons in Matt Ryan? Crazy how that trend is consistent among great QBs

Power rankings are useless BS.

In 2009, Week one, the Saints started 18th on ESPN power rankings. By mid-season, the Saints were undefeated, but still 2nd overall. By the last week, they were 5th behind the Cowboys, Vikings, Chargers, & Colts. Of course, we won the Super Bowl.

I'm more concerned about Jim Henderson's ominous gut feeling he got after watching this new roster practicing so sloppily. His only positive comment about training camp was over the pretty weather, but basically predicted a failing season similar to those at the end of the Haslett era.
