Doesn't exactly fit the description, but many people lost their shite when Glenn Dorsey was picked ahead of us and everybody knew we were going DT.
Ellis was average for a couple of years and crap for the rest, has already been out of football for a while, and he is still better than Dorsey.

One is still playing football, the other was forced to leave because he sucked. I'll let you figure out which one was worse

To be fair to Ellis, he walked away. He had signed with Chicago and was going to play. He was not exactly forced to leave. His heart was not in it I guess.

Everyone (including myself) wanted Jarvis jones. glad we took vaccaro instead

Dorsey was forced to play out of position for the majority of his career. He is a good player, and he is definitely better than Ellis.

The myopia is freaking astounding. If Dorsey went to Virginia Tech, you wouldn't be defending him. I don't understand why the defense of Dorsey is "well...he's still in the NFL." Collecting an inflated paycheck for literally 16 tackles on the 29th best rushing defense, and your job is to plug up the running lanes.
Sedrick Ellis could step onto a field 3 years out of football and do at least as well.

Jarvis Jones hasn't set the world on fire. I'll admit to having a mini-meltdown when we picked Vaccaro over him.

Yeah, I wanted Jarvis jones too.

Am I the only one on this board who thought Jones was too injury-prone and hadn't done enough to take in the draft?
At least, I wasn't all that excited about the prospect.

Dorsey has started for TWO teams, and has never looked back. He has played out of position his entire pro career at NT and DE. Dorsey has yet to play his natural position in the NFL. 3-4 based defenses doesn't allow him to play the cock-nose position at DT his is more tailored to play. I was shocked when KC took him and then his decision to sign with SF. He's may be past his prime now (30), so we'll never know what he could've been in a true 4-3 defense.

Drew Brees really hung him out to dry.

I was nervous about Jones' injury history, but he had shown flashes of being a dominating pass rusher in college. I thought he was worth the risk. I thought that he was a sure thing if he got past the injury concerns. Turns out that he hasn't even been good when healthy as far as I know. I was dead wrong about him.

Randy Moss
He'll have one in Canton, OH.

So returning after missing an entire season with a torn bicep doesn't contribute to his playing time? Also, you conviently left out the fact that his knee was blown out during the season as well. Ellis while here was serviceable and he made some plays, but look at the stats. Dorsey was better at finding the ball over the years and sack totals were lower because of scheme. Dorsey has played defensive end at 6'1" 300 lbs, you can at least admit he wasn't set up to fully succeed in that aspect.

I remember the "damn Pittsburgh always lands dominant defensive players wherever they draft"
Posted on 3/20/16 at 8:35 pm to htran90
I guess that my point with this thread is that the collective football iq is pretty good when it comes to the draft. I don't think there are many players that saints fans wanted that ended up being busts.
