It's probably likely. It's also fairly reasonable that he'd take a wait and see approach to the surgery but going dark and not updating the team of his progress is pretty inexcusable.

I would be willing to bet the Saints and Thomas saw eye to eye on not getting surgery during the season. But that has absolutely nothing to do with waiting four months at the very least to get a surgery after the season.

This sounds like the most plausible story. I don’t doubt that mt thought he could rehab. IE heal without surgery in the offseason. But the ignoring of the your employer has no excuses.

The bottom line is that mt is throwing a really long temper tantrum. And the more he tweets about it, the more he seemingly is digging in his heels that this is not his fault. Saints FO has a tough decision here; trade him to get the cancer out of the locker room and eat an insane amount of dead money…..OR deal with this child for one more years to make the dead money palatable.
