With the 3rd most common, we're going for Cooks.

I would be shocked if we picked Ford.

Passing on Jarvis Jones last season makes me feel the same way. We basically have the same personnel as last season.

Not only that, but I just don't think Ford is worth the 27th pick. I think he slides.

Well, we all know there will be a position of need that won't get drafted due to value not meeting pick, so no LBs isn't THAT big of a deal. The 2 Cs might be a stretch, but they can both play Guard, so it wouldn't be a big deal either if that happened.

I don't think we necessarily passed on Jones because of the personnel we already have a LB, but rather we took Vaccaro because of the personnel we had (or didn't have) at Safety. Also, they could have just not liked Jones as a prospect, more so than feeling we were set at OLB.

^ solid assessment. One big thing that's different regarding the Jones scenario is that prior to pre draft workouts/pro-day he was universally regarded as the #1 overall prospect, to almost Clowney-esque proportions.... Then reports started to come out, etc. etc. and 14 others teams passed on him before us. It's not like we were sitting at the top and said he wasn't worth it. Plus we had the worst rated secondary in the league. Made since in hindsight, especially considering we didn't run the 3-4 exclusively with Jones being a 3-4 OLB.

They said Jones wasn't in the same bubble of players as Vaccaro.

Whether he was the next bubble down or 10 bubbles lower I couldn't tell you.

So yeah passing on LB in the first had a lot more to do with who was there and who wasn't rather than whether they thought they needed a LB.

SB Nation did a good mock today and then I scrolled down and saw
quote:

Dee Ford

and then it wasn't as good anymore

Didn't want to start a new thread on this, but Charlie Campbell's updated mock from today would be a dream scenario.

1. Kyle Fuller

Not a first round talent

2. Jordan Matthews
3. Marcus Martin

Yes please

4. Pierre Desir

He's not staying until the 4th

5. Brandon Thomas
5. Bryan Stork

Would be incredible to get these two late. If Thomas returns 100% healthy you're getting a starter in the 5th round. Would LOVE to pick him up.

Crazy thing is under Payton we have yet to take a LB before the 3rd round.

I think we are due.

On that SB Nation draft, I'd take Shazier but I'd at least consider Nix.

That mock is the worst case scenario kind of thing I was talking about in wondering who else we should be looking at.

My only guess as to the Garoppolo selection is guys over thinking the Eastern Illinois connection with Payton.
