Saints WR Josh Morgan rivaled Ben Watson for the most total catches during spring practices

I think it's talking about Josh Morgan, not Joe

That is Joseph Morgan. I would rather him step up and be the guy because he has talent. Josh Morgan is the old vet from Washington, San Fran, Chicago, etc

Morgan maybe but Watson is going nowhere.

Preseason is going to say a lot about which receivers stay and go so I ain't calling that yet. Same for corners. Most of the other spots are pretty locked down except a few depth positions here amd there.

why have we been probing free agent TE's?

Josh Morgan is gonna contribute more than people thought when we first signed him...

Because after Watson and Hill we have jack and squat at TE. If we don't sign another one it's very likely Lorig and Johnson will both get a good amount of snaps at TE because we'll likely only carry two.

Hopefully both Hill & Watson stay healthy, b/c we'll be in a bad situation if one of them gets injured.

I know it's not popular opinion, but looking like Watson might be the number one over Hill

I think that unless Hill has some sort of huge breakout in preseason/early in the year they'll likely have similar catches. Hill seems to be a better goal line target though so I can see him getting maybe twice as many tds at the least.

I think Watson will be the "starter" in snap count terms because he'll be used for blocking a lot more than Hill though.

Put absolutely nothing into this. For one Colston has been out all spring and two they're not even in pads yet. Remember if it's June it's Toon.

We wouldn't be doing our due diligence if we weren't at least talking to other people after parting ways with the 2nd best TE in the game. Besides, Zach Miller and Gresham are the only two TE's on the market worth a damn.

Completely disagree with you regarding the Watson possibly not making the 53 though. The vet leadership is way too important at a position as uncertain as that. He isn't even a top 30 paid tight end and the cap number is only 1.9.

we shall see. I dont think Watson is as comfortable as everyone thinks.

it wouldnt have to do with veteran leadership nor money. Age and talent, and the fact that Hill isnt exactly proven. Watson will turn 35 this season and was a total non factor in the passing game last year, averaging 6.8 YPC.

yes, I think we'll prob only keep 2 TEs, then we have Lorig for emergencies, and we'll see a ton of Peat or Strief at TE as a 6th OL. Hill is a definite, but Watson's age and lack of production has him on the hot seat. If they can find someone on the market to replace him that is younger, they will.
