Well then, school the rest of us, as I don't view Peat as a miss.

ETA: Second thought, no need to bog down this thread with it. So, save it for another thread.

Yes unless he extends. But that is likely to be the majority of dead money if he doesn't. I don't see any other cuts that will significantly add to that.

apparent 3 yr window under Drew

Currently a 1 year window. If we don't make the playoffs he's bolting for a ring.

We need a proven corner NOW.

So yes I am agreeing with you.

Do you really believe Brees would bolt at the end of his career to be a ring chaser?

Why can we not assume this deal was already agreed upon when we traded Cooks to them? I dont understand the fear that we may trade the 11th pick. Again, we traded Cooks to them in haste to avoid the bonus owed to him. They agree to trade us Butler for the 32nd pick which was used as a placeholder until he agrees to sign a long term contract with us. It's so simple.

Yes, or he'd be at the table this offseason instead of wanting to play out his contract.

He's basically said he can't take losing anymore after the past season

Oh no, misunderstood me I meant people still think Peat was a miss. I schooled my brother in showing him he wasn't.

Lol I tried to make an Aaron Hernandez joke and called him Alex Hernandez in another thread I'm not doing much better.

No, he may be looking to leverage another great season into a bigger contract. It is still a business.

I think we give up 32 or 42 and give Butler 10-11 mil a year

And he can work on that deal right now while getting more money up front and not having to risk his body on the last year of his contract.

He could at least be at the table, and then put it away if he doesn't get the #'s he's looking for by the time the season rolls around, as he's always done.

quote:

Drew Brees in a post game interview said, “Not sure how much longer I can do this, tired of saying, 'Next year, next year.'"

quote:

"I'm just taking it one year at a time, honestly, because I certainly don't want to miss out," he said. "I don't want to overlook any opportunity. I don't want to miss out on any just moment, and I understand that I'm more toward the end of my career than I am the beginning and so time is limited. I can't tell you how long that's going to be. "I just want to make the most of each moment, each opportunity, each season and don't look any further ahead than just what's right in front of me, and just value that so it doesn't go by too fast."

Do you really think he stays if we have the fourth 7-9 season in a row?

I don't.

For what its worth Big Ben also said he might retire.

Not to say Drew is lying but you have to take what guys say at the end of the seaon with a grain of salt.

I do. I think his only decision would be whether to retire. I do not see him ring chasing.

Are you privy to discussions him or his agent have had with the Saints? No way for any of us to know what is or is not going on.

it comes down to if the Saints are building in the right direction again, which means we need to start the improving process, we've done the rebuilding already. Payton's stability and future here i'm sure is tied to Drew's as well. Saints do well, Payton stays, Drew stays.
