Jack Tatum-easy. The guy paralized someone in a frickin pre-season and refused to apologize cause and I quote"was doing my job". For crying out loud his nickname was the Assassin.

All of the names talked about so far are very good, but no one mentioned the two other best linbackers- Dick Butkus & Lawrence Taylor.

Old school there were almost too many to name just one. It was a whole different game of smashmouth then. What I always marvel at is the QB's back in the day. Those guys were hammered.

Doug Atkins was a tough SOB (big time party animal too, could put away a ton of martinis) & don't forget Steve Stonebreaker. He started a riot against the Giants after a game with the Saints back in 1967. And another player I would like to mention- ask Jimmy Taylor about Sam Huff, the old linebacker for the Giants.

for the saints I'll take Ricky Jackson. I remember one time a trainer found Jackson putting kicker pads, and Jackson told him he was trying to cutoff extra weight. He didnt even need pads, lol.
Also, I'll never forget when Jim Everett tackled and choked a d lineman for taking a late hit. That was badassed...
