May I please end the Saints/LSU debate?

It's not that the Saints organization (SPayton) doesn't like LSU players....
The problem with the Saints organization (SPayton) has been talent evaluation....
The Saints (SPayton) have miserably whiffed in the draft over 10 years because they are horrible at evaluating talent, not because they don't like LSU players....

The real explanation is that there are currently 128 division 1 FBS schools, not to mention the other schools that comprise the available pool of players. Even though LSU does put a lot of players into the NFL, the amount of LSU players in the pool of total players going into the NFL is still a small minority. When you factor that the player has to be projected at a certain spot where your pro team has a pick and the player has to play at a position of need that is valued at that pick, the odds of actually getting any one player from a particular school is small. It really is that simple, straightforward, and logical. The Saints have just missed out on something that wasn't a high probability event in the first place. Trying to claim that the Saints are actively avoiding players from a certain school and purposely trying to avoid talented players is an extraordinary, illogical, and straight up crazy and stupid explanation to a simple situation.
But it is so simple and logical that I don't expect people who believe the crazy explanation to figure it out regardless of explanation. You won't reason some one out of a conclusion that they didn't reason themselves into.

Nobody trying to read that shite.

I know. Reading more than 2 sentences at a time overwhelms me too.

The Saints staff is located 1:20 from the LSU campus...you would think they would evaluating/monitoring the LOCAL talent with greater frequency than most...just common sense !

Well said....
But I did want to emphasize the whiffs in the past drafts....
If the Saints were hitting home runs with their 1st and 2nd round pics this wouldn't even be an issue.....as it shouldn't be anyway...
Thanks for the real explanation!
I'll use it again if it's ok with you!

It's not the frequency or the distance ....
The Saints have just been bad at evaluating talent period...

Saints didn't even come talk to La'el Collins. How did that work out for them. They took Vacarro over Eric Reid, how's that working out for them. How about Trae Turner? Just think if the Saints had Collins and Turner on the offensive line now???

Every indication said we did and Collins didn't want to stay.
Reid had a good rookie year and been declining since. Vaccaro is at least trending up.
Nobody knew turner would even be this good. Everyone and their mom was all over hill/Landry, now yal want to bring up turner.

Reid and Vacarro have been roughly even so far in their careers. Red isn't even really better. That's an extra ignorant comparison.

Couldn't we have drafted him?
Posted on 2/25/17 at 8:34 pm to Rohan Gravy
You're probably right that the Saints' struggles with the draft make people think that if we're missing on players then it all would have been fixed by picking the LSU player who in hindsight ended up being great value. But it's also more than that. There are a lot of people around here who think that we shouldn't have picked Michael Thomas who was a total stud as a rookie because picking him shows that the Saints hate LSU. There's no reasoning with that kind of stupidity. They don't care even if they are good picks. They should have been LSU players.

I agree about La'el Collins....
Just take him in the draft....risk/reward was just too ridiculous not to take it
But again...I don't think its an LSU thing....
It's just piss poor decision making when it comes to talent...

I think this will spur a lively debate and afterwards we can file this sweep this topic into the dustbin of history.

Everyone who says saints should've drafted Collins should be perma banned from this board.
Posted on 2/25/17 at 8:45 pm to Peazey
Yep....I agree...
And I didn't like the pick because I wanted defense! :)
But what a stud home run he is!

You're acting like Reid's an all-pro or something. They've had similar careers and Vacarro was better last season.

Why would they seek out an LSU OG when they weren't even looking to draft an OG in the first place?
OP is right. This team has done a bad job of drafting.
