Could try to flip the 2 4s for a 3 as well.

Last year we had the two 4th round picks, but this year we only have one 4th round, and two in the 5th.

his acceleration is world class

That's what shows up on the film to me.

The guy consistently takes outs and, with the CB in front of him closing, simply makes him miss by accelerating and taking an angle. That's not something everyone can do.

@MikeDetillier: 2 GM's of teams picking ahead of NO Saints in #1 speculate Saints will try to trade up to snag OSU WR. Brandin Cooks or USC's Marqise Lee .

Part of me thinks that we have so few holes on the roster, that giving up a 3rd to move up a few spots wouldn't hurt. The other part thinks that with the high contracts on the books in the future year(as of now: Brees, Graham, Byrd, Evans, Grubbs, Lofton), that we could use more rookie contracts that even things out. But that is assuming we nail most of our picks, like we did last year, and at least one of Grubbs or Hawthorne doesn't become a cap casualty next year.

How is he a risk at 27?

While I'm definitely concerned about future contracts, the Saints have been very adept at moving money and filling holes. We still have this draft, UDFA, cuts, next FA period, and next draft to fill any future holes/replace future contracts.

The Saints are definitely in win now mode. They want to add pieces that can contribute sooner rather than later. If they move up, I trust them.

I want one of those guys too.

I think 1st round picks are pretty valuable.

I've watched Bryant play since he was a sophomore in high school. He's literally as physically talented as any kid I've ever seen at wide receiver. I'm not kidding, when Green was coming out of South Carolina, people would say "yea he's good, but wait until you see Tay".

You think Watkins has elite speed? He's never once been the fastest person on the team during his time at Clemson; that's Bryant. You think Nuk and Sammy can go up for a fade? Bryant is all of 6'5 with a 40" vert.

He has been suspended (both publically and privately) multiple times throughout his career at Clemson for a lack of effort. He doesn't block in the run game. He's the WR version of Singletary's "can't win with him".

If you ever put Sammy or Nuk's work ethic and competitive fire into him you'd have Randy Moss 2.0. He's physically that gifted, but he's never once put it all together

Trust me, I believe every bit you posted. I hadn't watched much of Bryant's play until the Orange Bowl game against Ohio St. but you could see the speed & athletic ability of Bryant. One of his 2 touchdown catches was a thing of beauty.

You don't think a team full of veteran leaders & that has a great staff like the Saints, couldn't get the most out of him? A receiver that talented has be given some consideration if he's still around in the 3rd round.

I remember the same things were said about Carl Nicks but he turned out pretty good. The risk ended up paying off.

I guess, and I see the comparison. It just seemed like for Nicks it was always overaggression ala Burfict at Cincinnati. He had question marks for days coming out of Arizona State but the question was whether he was ever gonna get arrested for his play on the field.

With Bryant it's the exact opposite. He's a worthless sloth. I completely see what you're saying and if you can get him mid to late it's not awful. I don't think you can fix lazy, but I see what you're saying about a good franchise structure keeping him in line.

Nicks was a lazy as well. He even went back to Nebraska later on & apologized for not giving his all when he was there.

quote:

Nicks said his class attendance was spotty and his work ethic lax during his senior season in 2007. Then, the weekend before the Cornhuskers' pro day in March 2008, he got drunk and was arrested for refusing to leave a disorderly house party.

quote:

"I was proud of my school, but I know my school wasn't proud of me, so that was important to me," Nicks said. "I'm embarrassed."

quote:

But after thinking about it more, Nicks said, the punishment was justified. In fact, Nicks said Pelini's decision inspired him to work "10 times harder." He was drafted in the fifth round in 2008 and is a two-year starter at left guard for the Saints.

Yea, I mean if we're able to get him in the 3rd or the 4th, I wouldn't love it, but I'd see the potential. Hell I wasn't a fan of the Hicks selection for the same reasons so I can see the value in taking risks.

It's probably more that I was as excited about Bryant as I've been any recruit in the last decade and that clown did nothing but ruin all my hopes and let me down each year .

I'll say this much, though, he has improved. He used to be a lengthy WR who played like a 6 footer. He caught everything with his body and never extended with his hands. Now, however, he's gotten more comfortable catching the ball, uses his hands better, and has learned how to extend and high-point passes.

IF you get him and can motivate him, you're getting a potential Pro Bowler. I just don't want that fvcker ruining my hopes once again .

I feel ya. Thanks for the insight though.

Personally I think Bryant is one of the most intriguing players in this draft class. He's classic high risk, high reward type talent.
