I was only semi trolling with the Fournette thread earlier.

For those who don't think this team needs another reliable RB please explain yourselves.

This team has been at its absolute best when it has a balanced offensive attack and can run the football. In both 2009 and 2011 we not only lead the league in offense, but we were a top 5 rushing team. The O-line falling off has a lot to do with it, but I think it's also because we haven't had a reliable every down back since Pierre left.

You can laugh at the thought of drafting Fournette, but this team does not have reliable runners.
Ingram can't create for himself whatsoever.
Hightower is solid, but isn't getting any younger.
Cadet is...Cadet. Passing situations mostly.
Lasco also solid depth.
Murphy, fumble prone, can't even hold onto returner spot.

The O-line certainly needs some TLC on the offseason, but I've had about enough of Ingram as the focal point on this offense because he can't be counted on.

One of best offenses in league and one of the worst defenses. We would have to be retarded to not draft defenders. If they are gonna draft offense it has to be on offensive line or your little RB won't be worth shite.

Tim Hightower rushed for over 100 yards today. TIM HIGHTOWER. He was out the league for years. You don't have to spend a first round pick to find a reliable running back. The team has bigger holes to fill.

How about finding a mauler at guard and it automatically makes it easier...

You can find adequate RBs for basically nothing.

If you don't have a quality RB, it's not because you don't have the money for it...it's because you aren't able to identify quality RBs before they come to your team.

Well, that even further proves my point. If Tim Hightower can rush for 100 yards and hang on to the ball, why can't Ingram?

There are plenty of solid RBs that we can find in the later rounds or even in FA. Our defense needs a lot of improvement so I would prefer if we drafted a defender in the 1st.

We've spent pick after pick on defense. We have the players just need to kick out Payton's boys in Vitt, Johnson and possibly Allen.

I am fine with our defensive core being Jordan, Rankins, Fairley, Kikaha, Ellerbe(if healthy), Robinson, Stupar, Breaux, Williams(if healthy), Bell, Viccaro, Crawley.

We even have Anthony, Byrd, Moore, Laurinaitis, Kruger, and Harris out there. I like our talent.

If there were a stud linebacker out there like a Jaylon Smith preinjury then draft him. Other than that I would be happy with Fournette over anything else.

I think if the saints are in the top 10 and Fournette is available you can't pass on him. Sure it's ok to have average RB and rush for a 100 yards here and there. Or you get a elite player and have a threat to score every time he touches the ball.

they wont draft a RB in the 1st again after the Ingram debacle. Our best RBs over the years have been UDFA. But i could see them taking one in the mid rounds

Would not be the case in NFL especially with our offensive line. Picking RBs in the first round is stupid unless all you need is a RB. Elliot is working cause he's good with a great offensive line. Gurley has games where he struggles to gain yards the past year and a half. Fournette is not a guarantee so why would you waste a top 10 pick on him when these scrub late rounders and UDFAs tear it up in the NFL every week. The Saints especially have had success with RBs who were nobodies and won the SB using 3 or 4 in a committee. Getting a competent run blocking offensive line is way more important.

He would be worth it just for the excitement he would bring to the franchise.

So you want to draft a player for the preseason hype it would bring?

Most guys on here are upset that Peat turned out to essentially become a 1st round LG draft pick. A spot that he looks to be tailored for...(I thought so last season as well)
Considering the last draft, we took the best talents on the board even though Rankins fit a "need" pick. Either way, if we took any RB in the first, why couldn't there be a top guard available in the 2nd round?

You don't pass on a RB like this. He gives Drew Brees 2 more years minimum as a top QB. He is the only back that i can remember that does not have a weakness. He is in no way a normal RB.

Hightower has better balance and vision than Ingram, he only missing power to finish his runs. If Fournette were to be drafted by NO, I'd say the complaints would disappear very quickly.

would love to have fournette but we can't afford to draft a running back in the top 10 if we get a top 10 pick. Way too many diamonds in the rough. It might be nice to have a horse like LF7 when Brees is gone though.

We NEED an elite defensive player. A game changer
