Legit Question---Why is the front office afraid of a rebuild?

Under the current situation the Saints keep pushing money into the future and while the cap grows each year the Saints never do get healthy. The Saints are always behind others in basically building the last 5-7 players on the roster because of cap issues.

They are content to contend for the NFC South with no real chance of making it either past the first playoff game or any further. I guess this is go enough for them.

The only thing I could point to is that they could not start Allen out behind the 8 ball with a rebuild and losing record, but they also wanted to come out from the Payton Shadow.

In hindsight the thing to do would have been to hire Allen, but then go to the media and the fans and say Allen was hired to offer stability to the franchise as we prepare to go through a rebuild.

Some people, even really smart and successful people get too emotionally invested in what was and lose sight on what's to come. The Saints organization felt so close to a title for a lot of the Payton/Brees years and haven't been able to face that fact that that window has closed. You're not in win now mode anymore. You need to be in build for the future mode but they keep trying to hang onto the past. They still obviously feel that they're "just a few pieces away" but the reality is that you're just an aged, great value version of what you were.

Three reasons.

Arrogance
No accountability or fear of getting fired
No fire and age

They still think they're smarter than everyone by kicking the cap down the road and trading up every draft.

They are quasi owners and have zero fear of getting fired.

They won a SB in a city that never expected to win and don't have that same desire. They're also getting old and don't have the same fire they once did.

You can't offer stability AND rebuild. Allen was hired to try to keep a good thing going. He offers zero stability if he isn't allowed to keep things (particularly on the defensive side) going as they were.

If a rebuild was the plan, they would have hired a coach from outside the organization and most likely someone like Doug Pedersen who has run a good team before.

Its fair to say why didn't they rebuild. But you have to realize that the hire of DA was specifically to try not to rebuild.

There's no reason to guarantee a shitty 3-5 years when your division is currently terrible and you have potential to host a playoff game/win 3 games to make the super bowl. If we were in the AFC North the rebuild would have already started. You people that want to tank while we are winning the division are legit fricking retarded.

Complacency. They feel zero pressure from the fanbase. Most saints fans are content on getting drunk and painting their face. If we are lucky enough to win its just an added bonus.

Look at Philly. They are the best team in the NFC and they get booed every other week if they have one bad drive.

Same goes for lsu fans.. They have tasted alot more success, they identify with being winners, and hold the program to a much higher standard. They will hang a 19 year old kid out to dry if he has one bad game. Hell they were ready to burn Jayden Daniels at the stake at the beginning of the year and he turned out to be a heisman caliber QB. Michael Thomas takes off two years for no reason and yall welcome him back with open arms and talk about how great of a leader he is.

You fools are still convinced that Derek Carr is a championship caliber QB and that we got him for a good price. The best is all the silver linings yall will throw around after terrible performances. We are currently 5-4 and our opponents are a combined 28-47! But hey we may still lose out in the first round of the playoffs!!! Dont worry about that $70M in negative cap next year, Loomis always finds a way !!!

Dude was crucified on every Saints message board for 2 years

quote:

talk about how great of a leader he is

The players, coaches, and media have always said that about him, are they all lying? How are we supposed to know?

We aren’t the general managers or coach, we can only hope the players we have succeed. If you have a way to make changes than go do it. Obviously you still watch them or you wouldn’t have made the post, so NOT watching them isn’t your solution

I'm not here to hope. The point of a message board is to discuss the games, players, coaches and everything else. Yall keep saying "you're a wannabe GM, nothing you say matters"

The fcking point of a message board is to discuss varying opinions. Im not hear to cheer on the effort of the players.

Philly was 7-9 in 2015 and 2016 before going to the Super Bowl in 2017.

In their previous years to last year's Super Bowl...

2018: 10-8
2019: 9-8
2020: 4-11-1
2021: 9-9

If anything they should give us hope that you can turn a .500 team into something more.

Not afraid at all I think.
Stability and profits rules the day.
Ownership will change one day and things will change for better or worse.
