Not quite sold on Hawthorne in the middle even thought he had a couple of good years with the Sea chickens. He filled in for P. Willis for 3 games and ended up with 39 tackles last year. Has that 49'nr smash mouth attitude that maybe could give our defense a little swag or a whole lot if we could get both him and Harrison. Could probaly get him on a very cap friendly contract with him knowing he would have real chance to start. Worse case good quality depth which we lack.

American football

Larry Grant is an American football linebacker who is currently a free agent in the National Football League. He was drafted by the 49ers in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He played college football at Ohio State. Wikipedia

Born: February 16, 1985 (age 28), Santa Rosa

Height: 6' 1" (1.85 m)

Salary: 1.26 million USD (2012)

Education: City College of San Francisco

Team: San Francisco 49ers (#54 / Linebacker)

Former team: St. Louis Rams (2008–2010)

Not quite sold on Hawthorne at inside LB, know he had a couple of good years with the Sea chickens, just not to sure. Grant filled in for P. Willis and was pretty damn good in his limited time. We do have a lack of depth on the inside. This seems like a good chance to pick up some young and upcoming blood for a fairly good price. Worst case some good depth which we need.

What's your thoughts?

As of now Hawthorne Vilma Chamberlain and Lofton can play middle. If he is a cheaper and better option than one of these I'm sold.

Hawthorne - was hurt unknown what he can do
Chamberlain - unknown, Grant much better
Vilma - smart player, getting older and slower
Lofton - we all know what we have there

Watch him when he was with the Rams one game was not impressed, IMO. Only reason he is here is because of Spags.

Also happen to see him after Patrick went down and came away impressed. But like before JMHO.

Like many on ST not sold on most of the defense's roster. With the limited cap space just throughing a name out there that seems to be better than what we got, that we could get on the cheap. Ready to move on from some of these players and take our chances elsewhere. How worse can it get?

Both Hawthorne and Chamberlain came from 4-3 teams. Why not get someone that has played in a 3-4 and shined in his limited opportunities.

To be serious it's nowhere near a need. OLB and DL are more of a need. ILB is the one spot on defense I'm not concerned about.

Oh this I agree on, but I see a chance to get younger and cheaper with what I think could be a better player. Should cost no more than Chamberlin who we could cut and a heck of lot cheaper than Hawthorne that alot of us are not sold on. Like I said earlier just throughing a name out there that in the long run could really pay off with our cap issues.

Cutting Hawthorne is not gonna save hardly any money iirc the way his contract is set up.
