I'd rather have Lewis. Best guy on our defensive unit last year, no way I want to lose that for some rookie the scouts will probably misdiagnose anyway

Yep. Social media commentary aside, Lewis is probably our only guy with a scintilla of leadership on the defense.

Oh I'm sure Payton and Loomis's hand picked wunderkind SJB will be ready to fill in immediately

I recognize the need to rectify the locker room culture but a vindictive coach who sends packing anyone who slights him does not set a strong precedent

I think Payton is as much responsible for 7-9 as the players are and I mean that in an operational way not because he's the head coach

Some of these guys must be picturing Brees and Payton looking at the roster... Payton pointing to each player, and Brees giving him the yes or no nod.

I believe all this was decided weeks ago. You basically have a board meeting and that's where the "20 priorities" came from. It's not as simple as Payton pointing and Brees saying yes. You talk about changes that need to be made and possibilities if this or that happens and all that has to fit around the cap and other moves around the NFL.

The Seahawks GM saying to the media that Loomis said basically everyone is available. You keep negotiation talks private.

I believe that was also taken hugely out of context.

How can it not set a strong precedent? He is obviously unhappy about last year, and maybe internal problems with discontent/lackadaisical play, and he feels this is the best way to make the players understand they are not to rock the boat.
