Larry Holder (who is nobody im aware) keeps mocking Kony Ealy to us. Someone help me out, am I missing something with him or is Larry just trippin. Does anyone agree with him and think that'd be a reasonable pick or no cause i dont see why he thinks we need a hand on the ground DE.

We play a lot of 4 man fronts. If he's the highest ranked player on the board, I have no problem taking him. Galette may stand up at times, but he's not dropping back into coverage much. He could be a similar player depending on what weight they'd have him playing at.

Walter Camp has been mocking him to us for months. I hate Walter Camp and his repetitive mocks. Charlie Campbell has Marqise Lee mocked to us currently. Needless to say, I prefer Charlie's mock. Either we trade back, or draft best player available. Ealy definitely might fit that bill.

I'm not too familiar with Ealy, but OLB/DE really wouldn't be as bad of a pick early on as a lot of people are making it out to be. If anything happens to Galette we're left with Butler, who is coming off an ACL tear and has 1 year left on his deal.

true true when we come out in the 4-2-5 he could useful. I wouldnt be surprise if we got him cause of the Loomis draft technique so we'll see i guess, id just be mad depending on whats left on the board.

Not a huge fan of Ealy for us. If we are going pass rusher, I would take Dee Ford over Ealy.

Just reviewed his mock. Interesting that he has Evans falling to 15 and Pryor falling to 29. However, his mock is probably just prepared after reading other mocks and not on any actual knowledge or insight.

I like Ealy a lot more than Ford. I wasn't a huge fan of the Ealy pick until I read about Galette being able to void his contract after this season if he reaches 12 sacks. Ealy could be part of a fantastic 3 DE rotation that keeps everyone fresh and would be nice to have in the event that we can't keep Junior after this season. He definitely has the size to play both RDE and LDE whereas Ford would be locked in at RDE when we go with 4 man fronts, which is more often than not.

Interesting. I saw a couple of draft profiles that compared him to Quinn, but Quinn would have went much higher if not for off the field questions. So I'm not sold on that comparison.

He looks like the next Dion Jordan, Barkivious Mingo type rusher that is a boom or bust guy.

If we take a defensive lineman this year, what do y'all think of Justin Ellis (NT) from Louisiana Tech? 6'1" 334 lbs. Projects as a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Would be good to have a young rotation of Ellis and Jenkins at NT and let Bunkley's big contract walk. Thoughts?

Yeah, I'd prefer Ealy over Ford as well.

I know some of you guys feel like we don't need more pass rushers, and yes, a lot of the sports analyst are ignorant that we had 2 guys over 12 sacks last year, but the draft is more about the future than the immediate.

Id take Marcus Smith over both Ford and Ealy. And i think he's projected 2nd round.

I don't mind if we pick up a pass rushing DE/OLB. I just have a problem with the side comments they make about our 'non-existent pass rush last year'

we went after defense heavily in FA. I don't think we draft another defensive player in the first round unless CJ Mosely falls to us. I think we go O-Line or WR

Since Sean Payton has been in New Orleans they have taken the best player on their board. Now they are transitioning to the Seattle/San Fran type of defensive strategy and to do that they need a lot of good d-line and LBs. No one really knows how Butler will come back.

Galette being able to void his contract after this season if he reaches 12 sacks

Then if this is true the Saints will likely only be able to keep either Galette or Jordan after next season.

Why do people keep saying this? The Saints have drafted for need in the first round. Cam Jordan, Mark Ingram and Sedrick Ellis were all needs at the time.
