Exactly.

Somebody should bump that thread. It was a terrible idea. 90% of the people on here said to go ahead and give him more garunteed money. That seems to have worked out well.

I'm against giving any player a raise in the middle of a contract unless it's an extension.

There was no excuse for caving to the whining.

looking back, it was a wild offseason of deals that some were for better and some absolutely killed us.

I was against the contract. He's a great player and has a hell of a heart, but buisness is buisness. It's coming back to bite into our cap. Dumb move on loomis.

Doing this kind of crap is the reason we have so many bad contracts. There's no excuse for it.

i literally can't think of any other scenario we've done such a thing. keenan was an unusual instance, he was the heart and fight of our defense at the time. obvious the following injuries was horrible timing and definitely gives us short end of stick.

He was great in 13, and average as frick in 14. He had done nothing to deserve an extension to that point. Loomis got played.

I think it's funny people are acting surprised. I didn't honestly expect him to make it to the bye week

Didn't we give Junior a ton of money before he was an UFA?

This could be the reason we tried to sign Josh Norman. I think its time to say good bye to KL.

We gave him a 3yr/7.5mil contract going into 2013 when he was a RFA. The season prior, he put up 5 sacks and a good bit of pressures for a situational 3rd down rusher in 12 games (something like 30 pressures, 190 snaps).

He responded with a 12 sack season the season after in 2013.

We ended up extending him an additional 4 years at 41.5mil in 2014. Which would have made the remainder of his contract going through the 2019 season for a total 6yrs/46.5mil (7.75mil/yr) a HUGE bargain and probably one of the reasons why he became bitter when he posted another 10 sack season when everyone else and their mom started getting $$$$.

The problem came after the 2014 season, following the "frick sean" video but prior to the whipping video (IIRC) that Loomis ended up restructuring his contract and that is why we had to eat 20+mil in dead money after we cut him that same offseason.

The contract itself was genius, the idiotic part was restructuring it and then cutting him.

This isn't surprising at all. Just watch his "comeback" videos on IG, it's not pretty

He wasn't extended, and it wasn't last offseason.

They converted his 2016 roster bonus into a signing bonus, which already would have been paid, and converted part of his 15 and 16 base to a signing bonus

His 2017 year remained untouched in the deal, but it allowed the Saints some flexibility with their cap.

So it really hasn't impacted us much unless you think we would have cut him in 2015

He fought through injury in 2014 while players around him quit on the team.
