We weren't allowed to do trades, anyway ended up with this draft.

1. Sheldon Rankins DT Louisville

Joey Bosa nearly fell to me, but got scooped up by the Giants at ten. Anyway, decided to go with the popular pick and take Rankins.

2. Robert Nkemdiche DT Ole Miss

Couldn't believe that he fell to me, but I feel like the Titans GM completely forgot about him. Not really crazy about going back to back on DT but figured he was way too good of value to pass up on.

3. Carl Nassib DE Maryland

Finally setting our defensive line, I love a line of Jordan, Nkemdiche, Rankins and Nassib.

4. Vadal Alexander G LSU

Was between him and Rashard Robinson actually, but figured G was the bigger need.

5. Rashard Robinson CB LSU

He fell to me anyhow, so I was definitely excited for that.

7. Cody Kessler QB USC

There really wasn't many players left that I knew offhand so decided to take another QB to sit and let groom behind Brees.

The Saints don't draft LSU players so this mock looks terrible

A fine mock draft. I've seen many a mock. This mock is up there with the best of the other mocks. And I'm not mocking your mock either.

Why would you mock draft for something for which you'll have absolutely no say? Seems way too obsessive for an event that produces only average or better players 27% of the time for the Saints.

Man, our front 7 would be pretty talent-loaded if we had this draft

Unfortunately we would still suck because we have no WRs

Thank God those two 1000 yard receivers are coming back.
Maybe we can get a TE who stretches the field and we can work in some passes to the RB's.

If your not optimistic this time of year your lost

And we are not empty at WR this year unless your a pessimist.

Can we get better at wideout sure. Are we devoid of talent to make Brees continue playing at a high level?
No.

True but as of right now I'm not overly optimistic that our receiving corps are at a level that we can put legit game winning /dominating consistent pressure on the opposition as opposed to a good statistical offense...if that makes sense.

Do we have that guy that's going to win one on one to move the chains against good competition on a consistent basis when the game is on the line? Or are we just going to be happy that our puts up a shite load of passing yards. I really want to see less quarter to quarter and a half gaps of non production by our offense.

Yea it does.
Look just because I don't want a WR at 12 doesn't mean I don't want a WR stud in the first three rounds that can help us.

Lots of great WR's will be there in the bottom half of the first round of the draft if we can pick there.
I fully expect the Saints to look at several in the first few rounds.

I feel the Fairley signing is either underrated by fans or they have completely forgot we signed him.

I mostly follow your line of thinking, and I obviously see the argument: we had a top passing offense last year, there's no way we need WRs...

But in reality, the offense sputtered in several games last year and cost us at LEAST two games just off the top of my head. Every time that happened, everyone was super quick to blame Payton's playcalling... But realistically our playcalling "situation" - all the terrible short passes and screens - are just a direct result of our lack of physicality at WR. It's really hard to confidently call plays that put WRs isolated on the outside when our 1 and 2 are both weak small guys. Even Coleman is bigger but has such a slight frame... There just can't be any confidence that these guys can win against physical DBs outside of the numbers.

Personally I also think that is why we saw Brees go to Watson so much last year. He was, quite literally, the only option that could really go up and fight for the ball in the vicinity of defenders. So when you're seeing solid coverage there is nowhere else to go.

Don't get me wrong, I think Cooks and Snead can be really really good as our 2 and 3 for a long time. Or even like a 1b for Cooks. I just think we need someone who is physical, with a decent catch radius and good route running, to take care of business on the outside. Prime Colston (who also excelled in the slot) would be good. But this is why I want Treadwell. I'm not worried about his speed. He catches everything around him and is easily the most physical WR in this class.

I don't either at 12(especially since there doesn't seem to be those prototype 1 studs that have it all. I'm with you, I'd just like a couple guys taken with a little more pedigree than udfa /end of draft guys. That can easily be 2,3rd guys, esoecially in a offense that spreads the ball around. Look at jordy Nelson, alshon Jeffrey. Talented guys that had obviously more physical talent than the diamond in the rough guys but don't cost the bug pick.
