Am I missing something with him? I know he's got his issues of late but he's a proven nfl pass rusher that isn't currently suspended. Why draft an edge guy with a top pick when he's still on the roster?

Bc he's gone after next year and he'll probably miss the first 2-4 games

At least teams frequently rotate DEs to keep them fresh. Makes more sense to draft a third DE than a third OT with your top 15 pick. But I do agree, our starting 4-DL ends are fine. Could use some depth in case one gets injured, doe.

I'm not a huge fan of his personality either, but with a very generous contract under his belt you get the feeling that he's stuck here.

he wasn't that good last year and has only had 1 elite year, plus having 2 pass rushers > having 1

Nope and nope. He's not getting suspended and because of his contract we'll lose cap if we get rid of him next year. He is here for the long haul. Some idiots were just drumming up mess.

And I've said this for the years now we do not take pure pass rushers in the first round. We don't take them in the second for that matter. You don't draft a guy that isn't playing every down in the first two rounds. Period.

This is false. He was one of the only defensive players to maintain his pass rush pressures the last two years (Hicks had a slight increase). Anyone thinking Galette played poorly pass rushing last year isn't paying attention.

While he may not be elite I thought he was certainly above average. Anyone you draft, regardless of the round picked, is just a guess. Who knows, maybe Dupree and Gregory aren't good enough to get Gallet off the field. Maybe they are pro bowlers, but it's nice having a guy who is at least better than most.
