I honestly think he can't hit those Devery like rainbows to cooks or Stills or Morgan anymore.
That's what I fear as well. People talk about our WR's not getting "separation", but Stills and Cooks are 4.3 guys.

Seems like most deep balls require wr to stop or slow up for pass.
Exactly. There were a couple of those last night as well. Just once I'd like to see some sets where Graham and Colston eat up the middle and Stills and Cooks post and Brees actually hits one of them in stride for a long TD. We used to see that on the regular.

Do you ever see them wide open and Brees not throw the ball? Even when Brees has time it doesnt seem like anyone is over.

this goes to my last post. I think he's hurt.

Breesus is right, they're never open like they used to be. It's not like they have five steps on the DBs and have to come back for the ball which gives the DB a chance to close the distance and make a play.
9 times out of 10 it's both the WR AND the DB coming back to try and make a play because they are running step-in-step.

Wow this writer is dramatic. This season reminds me A LOT of the 2007 season. High expectations, crappy results.

quote:I don't know about all that...to me the Saints right now feel like a good team that just doesn't feel like it can win. Kind of like a good MLB hitter with a career .290 average that is on a 20-game slump and feels like he can't drive anything. It sucks when you get the yips. I think the Saints have the yips.
Forecast: The Saints, as we know them, are over

I agree, God I hope we are right.

I'm not sure yet....
I don't agree with the writer but the Saints have given me nothing to dispute his claims with.

While the forecast speaks exactly what most of us feel, i don't look at it with the doom and gloom as "The Saints Area Dead". The organization has grown too much in the last ten years under Payton and Loomis to not be able to rebuild it.
Right now there are some talented pieces on defense. Offense you have a top TE, and a solid young RB corps. We need to begin transition from the Brees era effective next season. Time to start looking at young arms, big fast young wrs, and adding lots of OL depth.
Defensively, someone to start at the CB2, and some better LB's. We also need a more consistent defensive scheme.
I feel confident in the Saints front office to do so. I just hope there is money in the coffers to do so given the contracts we have to veteran players.
Part of the issue on offense is that lately our defense gets us down early and makes us become somewhat one dimensional on O. Defenses slide into a cover 2 forcing everything to be short to intermediate routes.

In 1993, the Saints started 5-0 and looked fantastic then went to Pittsburgh and got completely embarrassed. Jim Mora's Saints would never be the same and would never come close to being a playoff contender again. That's what Sunday felt like.
That was exactly what I thought about, too.
"You can't run on the Saints."
Well, that game, Pittsburgh showed you could.
And everybody did.

Season isn't over yet. All we can do is support the team and hope that they right the ship. This team has the talent to do so, but seem to be in some sort of funk.
They should get the win this weekend, putting them at 2-3, and the bye week couldn't come at a better time to be honest. I think they will fair well overall at home; possibly win all of them. They need to find a way to win a road game or two on this schedule. I think 9-10 games might win the NFC South this year considering it's garbage overall, so they should be in the hunt until the end. But they have SO, SO much to work on. I still believe in this team.

told America their days as serious contender in the NFL are over.
This is the truth. It's over. The Brees/Payton Era is over.
I don't know when the Saints will win another SB, but, IMHO, Brees will be retired by then.
The Window is closed. This is just my humble opinion.
The dream is over.

They only bright spot to the season so far is that we still have a good shot at winning the division.
This is delusional. The 2014 Saints have absolutely no chance of winning this division. This is a bad football team.

Calm down.
It's more an indictment of the rest of the division than saying we're a good team.

The Saints will be a game out of first place in November.

This team is not a Super Bowl contender...and I don't see us getting back to that level in the Drew Brees era unfortunately.

No matter how much football changes / evolves, one thing will always remain constant. If you're unable to control either side of the line of scrimmage, your chances of winning are bleak. Right now, the Saints seem to be getting owned on both sides.

I dont get the brees hate. 300 ypg, 71% completion ratio, and 7-3 td/int.
The line isnt doing well, we never seem to have a wr open, and the playcalling has been pretty atrocious. defense certainly isnt helping either. special teams has been terrible.
I dont know know whats going on with this team. It seems like teams have a formula to beat payton now and payton is not changing up his tendencies.

Drew is either hurt or he quit playing football.
Drew is older and has less physical ability as a result of aging.
That's the most likely reason for the lack of progress in his game.
As we all well know, this deficiency won't improve with time.

Hard to dispute when you let a shitty team, like the Cowboys, with no defense beat you.
