Albert Connell comes to mind.

Byrd had more INTs than anyone in the NFL per season or something like that. The Saints needed defensive turnovers. It made sense

Connell was average and we still paid his arse and he was a bum.

It would be like if the Saints had money, desperately needed someone, and then broke the bank for Patrick Chung.

He was by far the highest rated safety in the game on PFF when he was signed. The results have sucked, but we were all pretty happy when it happened.

Just because as of now, if he doesn't come back strong from this injury, it is up for debate as one of the worst signings in Saints history that doesn't mean that it was a bad decision at the time. It could end up being a fine decision that just ended up going horribly awry, which is what it looks like if things don't change pretty quickly.

He wasn't what the Saints thought they were getting when they overpaid him, but he did have 8 interceptions and a return for a touchdown in 2 years with the team.

David was terrible in man coverage but had a knack for being around the ball if that even makes sense.

But that TD happened in the infamous Colts game.

Yeah but I'm sure Redskins fans were thrilled when they signed Albert Haynesworth.
So far Byrd has been injured or playing bad when he's not injured.

Given that the Saints are drowning in dead money and Byrd's contract is in affect dead money, Yes.
