Supa, you can blame the OL all you want, but why is it that Deuce and Thomas were both able to grind out yards with that same OL. I am sick and tired of people blaming the OL for Bush's lack of running skill/vision. The dude plain sucks at running out of the backfield unless he has 5 yard wide holes to run through like at USC, not to mention he's a pussy.

The OL isn't great at run blocking, but Bush makes them look worse than they are, and if you idiots can't see that, then look at the stats for Pierre Thomas lately and also Deuce before his knee started swelling.

Citing the injury doesn't help your case, it hurts it. Bush has now missed significant time in consecutive seasons, which raises serious questions about his durability. I think it's pathetic that we're actually comparing Bush to Leon Washington at this point. Nobody would even think of comparing him to a real RB like Thomas Jones. The guy has been a major disappointment. I actually think his stock is about as low as it's been in his nfl career. People have been citing "potential", but after three years, that argument starts to lose luster. And the Jets have plenty of "star" power with Favre in town and Jones's emergence as top tier RB. They don't need to overpay a guy to come in and do what someone else (Washington) has done a better job at. If they were actually looking to unload him on someone, the Raiders would be where to go. He'd be close to home and Davis always falls for physically talented underachievers. It'd be a horrendous move for the Jets to make.

I can think of at least two crucial fourth and 1s when Defensive players blew past the EDGE of the OLine and pulled Pierre down FROM BEHIND before he could gain one yard.

That's pretty pathetic OLine play

with Thomas? because Deuce is gone in 2009 imho

Thomas is a serviceable every down back. We still need a bruiser, but PT can run up the gut, off tackle, screens, etc. He's a complete back and that's really what you need to compliment Bush who does his damage when the defense isn't keying on him.

damn, all three hunh?

No, just 2. Move Brown back to RT. Center shouldn't be that hard to fill, we don't need a stud, but we downgraded the position when we lost Faine and have had non-fulltime centers manning the spot.

so with limited cap space and a 1st rounder and not much else in this upcoming draft, how do you propose to upgrade at three OL spots, OLB and both safeties?

I don't think you have to upgrade both safeties. We use Harper as the 8th man in the box a lot, getting a more complete safety of course would be good, but getting a better coverage safety that wasn't good at run support would probably cause more problems than it solves. Getting a better coverage safety to replace kk/bullocks solves many problems.

It's really too early to answer your question though. We have to see where the Saints are drafting to see what the options are. It is a deep draft at LT so if we are drafting in the teens we possibly could trade back, still get a good LT and pick up a 3rd. You also have to throw unforseen trades into the equation. We got both Faine and Hollis Thomas for the low low price of swaping positions in a round.

Can we fill all the holes this offseason? Who knows, but there seem to be fewer holes to fill than in previous seasons and trading Bush for a safety and some midround picks just doesn't get us enough ROI IMO.

I'm not one of the people who think Bush is definitely gone as soon as he can sign with another team. The fans won't get any kinder in New York and Bush isn't likely to find another coach to overuse him as much or an offense so loaded that he's not the focus of the defense on every play. He may get more money in other markets, but he won't get more opportunity.

the funniest thing is that if he went to LSU no one on this board would dare say anything bad about him

probably right

I like RB and I wish he would stay as a Saint but I believe he has more value to the team as a trade option than in his current role. Who else does the Saints really have that is attractive enough to bring some picks and a starter back? Colston? Pierre Thomas? Brees?

Colston and Brees aren't going anywhere so not much is left

Yes, I am talking about the Saints. Our OL has sucked on short yardage situations, but we are able to run outside of those. Bush can't run PERIOD. He's had like 3 to 5 decent runs all season, and even after he gets a half-way decent run, he'll give it right back on the next play.

Now a large part of the problem is Payton and his playcalling, but I assure you much of the problem is when you pay a player as much as Bush is getting, his hand is being forced to give him lots of touches. Plain and simple. This is why I agree that a trade may be in the teams best interest.

Get several players/picks for Bush and add complementary players to the team. Bush doesn't complement this team based on his salary. His skills may complement it somewhat, but not with the salary he gets.

We all also know Bush isn't going to take a pay cut, so the best thing to do is get SOMETHING for him before he bolts in a few years.

Definitely. Bush will not re-sign with the saints when his contract is thru. Get value now while you can.

yes we should but see people say we cant get much but i think we could get the bengals 1st round pick and maybe some more picks if we trade ours and bush i know its like giving something up for free but with the number two or three pick which ever one bengals get and more picks we could get from the bengals who need someone like bush . We would be better off that way and i am pretty sure bengals would do it.

Maybe they could trade him for JR. Brees is not going to be around forever. Maybe JR would develop into an NFL caliber quarterback and Bush may help the Raiders as a pass receiver.
