There is a miscommunication here. Probably on my part since I'm using my phone but no matter. The point I'm trying to make is that no one should get a pass for poor play. I'm not placing the blame at Drews feet but he also shouldnt avoid criticism when he has made some glaring mistakes. Everyone should be held accountable. That is all.

No. Need to draft a QB and let him develop so he's ready to takeover when he's done like Rodgers and Favre.

I have a feeling when Brees is done Payton will be done too. Might be the reason why drafting a QB and developing a successor isn't too high on his list.

Well the major advantage in drafting a QB these days is the rookie contract. If we drafted a QB now, we wouldn't get that benefit when Brees leaves

This is the going rate for starter franchise qb's. That's the market. Compared to recent deals that have been signed, Brees is a steal. If you don't already know this, then you haven't really been paying attention, and you don't know what you are talking about.

Here is part of the issue with Brees. Look at part of this article about QB pressure.

You shouldn't. Brees is a poster boy for the NFLPA. It'll be a cold day in hell before he agrees to a pay cut
You're in for a surprise.

Is Drew worth 20+ million????
Yes easily.

The alternative was $20million extra and no Drew Brees, so yea, I'll take Brees and $20mil every time in that scenario at the time we made the deal.

No brainer.

I think that's the most concise way to make your point. Thank you

As opposed to this season with Drew Brees? He's only going to get older and he's only going to cost more and more.

He's gonna have a cap hit of 26 and 27 mil, which will be reduced with an extension with higher signing bonus/guarantee and a lower per year average than 20mil/yr.

There's only 1 other QB in this league being paid more than Brees that is worth it and that is Rodgers. Ryan and Flacco are paid more than Brees and they would both struggle as well with being pressured on 29-30% of dropbacks.

Issue isn't Brees and his 20mil, issue is an interior line that is the worst pass blocking group being paid 15mil.
